I use oak/maple shavings. Supplemented with oats. My 1st try was 60/40 wood/oats. It was waaay too much supplementation and I got some mutantés. 🙄

Indeed, 100% agree. Golden oyster is a perfect candidate as a fruiting indicator, Golden oyster will tell you if you have enough oxygen, humidity and light (and also temperature). Oysters use copious amounts of oxygen, they love to oxidize materials (enzymes-reactants), and produce materials with oxygen (including glucose).
Mycelium usually stay below the surface, to prevent too much oxidative damage (especially when decaying with oxygen). Fruit bodies grow into a high oxygen environment, and act like lungs, and a base area for chemistry.
Here is indoor and outdoor Golden oyster, indoor with medium FAE (yellow uptake).

The high O2, light and other factors produced rich fruits.

Thanks for those links! I’m excited to read them.
It was a real eye opener as I hadn’t grown outside before. It’s already kind of making my squeaky wheels turn for improving my grow room this fall when I need to move back in.

Where is the best place to get soybean hulls? I am finally going to take the plunge and make some of Jooce's bags.

Almost impossible to find in Canada. Found a guy 5 hours away who found a supplier but have to buy a ton at a time. We are talking about going halfers lol. It’s a big plunge.
Try your local feed store. I heard farther south it’s easier To source.

Almost impossible in the midwest too. I had given up in northern IL, and have recently given up in southern WI. Closest I got was someone that could order them but in bulk only. They were like "how many cubic assloads you need" I was like "one 50 lb. bag please?" "We don't go that small..."

This sucks to hear. I got all excited about Jooces master mix bags and now I can't find any in Colorado. I am working on it though.
What can I substitute that wont possibly deter from the explosive growth that soybean hulls offer? I heard wheat bran but it may not produce the same results. Trying to make a business model right now and this is definitely a hindrance

How are yall running your AC into the grow room? Ive seen people run their fresh air through the ac then into the grow room and Ive also seen people have the AC in the room to allow it to constantly cycle over and really cool down the air.

I've read that beet pulp may be pretty close, I've followed through with enough questions/answers on here that it seems to be pretty much a 1:1 replacement for soy bean hulls. It's got more sugars than soy beans, but nutritionally it's similar. They're both considered "super fibers" whateverthefuck that means. Something about high percentages of digestibility compared to others.
With that said, I have a 25# bag I'm afraid to test though. Wheat bran was kinda awful to work with, hard to mix and made everything mealy.

Wow Shaper, I use wheat bran and don’t have a problem. I hydrate my hwfp first and then add the bran, maybe that’s the difference?

I built this enclosure around my hood for several reasons. (it helps press on the filter onto the FFU, the light, i hope even better protection.., and i guess for fun) the 3 panels can be flipped open/away, in case i need the space to fill bags or other work..
There is lighting in it, and also UV-C that flips out of the top ( although i blew up a tube and need to reinstall that part).

Also I have red sorghum now, can't wait to try it instead of millet, or ideally with a small bit of millet mixed in.
What do you mean 'mealy' ? Is your bran powdered?

I might try wheat bran first as we already need that in the homestead for our meal worm farm. My girlfriend said she would be happy if we used that in oyster blocks so she never runs out.
The hookup for milled feed said that they can get soy "meal," which I said I might consider but I don't think it would be the same as just the hulls.
Beat pulp sounds interesting. I wonder if the oyster will pick up any of the plant dyes from the pulp?

Alright yall I have an annoying problem. My compost pile is currently exploding with wonderful looking mushrooms yet my grow room is struggling to produce pins. Its been running over 90F during the day so Ive been cooling the air going into the farm with a small window unit. I have been running the humidifier to keep the air between 90-98% and my floors are always damp. Could this be an airflow and humidity problem? My temps are better than outside so its gotta be that I think.

That's a bit like the design I made, which directs the airflow against you, and prevents side intake due to pressure. You could probably add some plastic sheet, that has holes cut, and is sealed via magnet strip.
If it works well, you can add a more permanent solution (hinged plastic panels).

They are mycorrhizal, they need certain plants. Not possible to grow indoors like oyster/shiitake/etc.

I was reading something that said if you dip tree roots into a mycellium slurry then plant the tree it is possible. You are supposed to check the roots to see if the mycellium took, then plant in planter or ground outside. Not sure of the deets as I don’t plan on doing this....right now anyway lol
I’m going to go look for some too. Had some rain so they might be popping out of the ground soon. Found several boletes right around my clothesline but haven’t ventured in the bush yet. Damn work gets in the way of important stuff.

Hi friends hope all is good with you all?
So I currently have a few fruiting blocks or LMs and sporeless oysters in my GH. The oysters havent started pinning yet (they were placed in the GH after the LMs) and the LMs are this size (see pic) is this the time to lower the RH for the LMs?
Second question being, how do YOU do it when you have mushrooms in your GH in different stages? Say some waiting to pin and others past the pinning stages?
So far I just keep my RH at 95% in my GH at all times. I has worked but maybe they would grow "better" if I lowered the RH to about 90%RH once they hit the stages?
Any tips much appriciated
