Deep scratching this casing. How to do it?????
    #2439811 -

This is my first attempt at casings and I have one that is quite obviously overlayed. It's been a long time since it was fruited and no fruits!!! How do you go about deep scratching (please don't just post a link to the faq... I've read it... I'm looking for first hand experience here)???

Take a fork and clean it well with some alcohol. Then carefully scratch the whole surface of the casing just to brake up the overlay- not to deep. Then mist it well to let the mycelia recover.
2-3 days after this cold shock the culture (if it is -what I think- a cubensis) to induce the fruiting.
If your isolate is fruitable this should work.

Good Luck,
Cap

Since you asked for experience, I've found after deep scratching to re-incubate the casing is a good idea. Otherwise just spraying and let "recover" at room temperature seems to make it a lot worse. I've noticed spraying after deep scratching and then incubating recovers the mycelia very well.

There are small patches of dead myc. on the surface. Do I want to scrape these off and throw them away or just kinda break them up a bit?

The FAQ is your friend

Penalties against drug use should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against the possession of marijuana and mushrooms in private for personal use.
