casing technique hypothesis - no casing damage!
    #2439532 - 03/16/04 01:40 PM (20 years, 17 days ago)

I just had an idea, a jar of grain that I had recently forgotten, sitting on the shelf, with its coffee filter stuffed inside to keep it out of the way. I noticed a shroom growing upon said coffee filter.
so not one to waste a good shroom, I harvested said shroom and noted with much joy easy how easily it seperated from the coffee filter.

My hypothesis is this : to prevent damage to the casing from the removal of shrooms place substrate material into container like normal and cover with 75% of your normal casing amount, then place in some coffee filters to act as a -tear-away- barrier then cover with an additiona 25% of your casing layer.

The idea being that the pins form *above* the tear away layer, and so when you go to pull them, thier attachment is no-where near as strong to the fiberous material of the filter.

I'm going to try this on my next casing...

there's a similar thing going on with using fabric as casing material.

it's over at mycotopia.

I've read a thread here where somebody was suggesting using burlap.

I believe it was in one of the old forevercake threads.
