Any successful and large outdoor shaggy mane grows?
    #24396032 - 06/11/17 10:52 AM (3 years, 10 months ago)

I'm a big fan of shaggy manes but their freshness is so fleeting and they aren't terribly common around here so it would be really cool to cultivate a big old patch that could be triggered to fruit throughout the summer.

Has anybody successfully done so? I did a search but couldn't find much regarding outdoor grows that ended in substantial success.

They have a super short shelf life and if your looking to sell them it just wont work. People have inoculated lawns. Start with a good organic yard take some grain or sawdust spawn, or both.  Use a plug airator or pitchfork to make some holes in your yard then make the spawn into a slurry or just break it up and spread and rake it in. Throw 1/8-1/4" of compost on top as a top dressing. Might as well spread some fresh grass seed and organic fertilizer before the top dressing, also a good time to fill low spots in the lawn. So basically just give your lawn a makeover, if the mushrooms don't take a foothold at least your lawn will look awesome lol.
