I used to dislike Linkin Park, because I was stupid. The fact is, they're really good musicians, and the people who put them down generally dislike them because they seem "too commercial".. which is really just an attempt to rebel against society; because we all know that we're too cool for the hip crowd.

I DO think a lot of their songs sound a little too similar to eachother, but I also think they have some really good songs, with really original styles.

I also think their radio singles give them a bad rap, so to speak. When I first heard their first single (the teen angst one, you remember) I thought they were pathetic.

I must admit, I like them quite a bit. It really bothers me when people say its lame to like a praticular group, or get mad and try to tell you why the music sucks.. the fact is, if the music sounds good in my ears, I really do not give two fucks about anything anyone has to say about it. I don't always care about the message, I don't always want deep thought provoking lyrics. Sometimes I just want to slip a disc in the dash and drive. Sometimes, I just want to let go, and jump around. Sometimes, the lyrics really just don't matter very much, and are just there to let the vocal music pour through.

Bottom line is, if you judge anyone's musical preferences, you're the lame one.

When I first started listening to them, I had the same complaint.. that their songs, although good, sounded all the same.. now that I've been listening to them for a good while, I notice the dynamics or each song so much more, there really are a lot of different things happening in each.. so many different levels of audio going on. I hear new things everytime I play through an album of theirs.

Right on man, that's my attitude on music too. I do enjoy a good strong lyrical message, but I've learned that it does not make or break the music.

Couldn?t have described it better, another way of looking at
it is, the more bands you like the more bands you get to see live.

So you're saying you don't? I find that very hard to believe.

I see where you are coming from though on everything else, I have a very similar stance that if it sounds good I'll listen to it; a bands popularity shouldn't matter. But Linkin Park just doesn't appeal to me. Sure, a few of their songs may have catchy parts, but nothing more than that.

blah linkin park sucks.

this is the recipe for any linkin park song:

you take one little sampled orchestral riff and loop it a couple times, next you add a drum machine with a stock beat that anyone can get in 'loop packages', then you stir in the bastard child of Fred Durst and Justin Timberlake prancing along singing/rapping cutesy 'oh I have so much teen angst and girls ignore me' bullshit. Then you throw in some idiot who's only job is the scream at the top of his lungs. Bake in a studio with a team of professional producers who tweak and sugar coat every beat. Overprice the CD then serve to masses of 13 year old girls.

bon appetite.

PS-as with all shit, it's best to serve this on a spoon

negatory.

If my adrenaline was raised it would because I'm trying to fight through a mob of screaming girls and wanna-be punks who are overly happy about getting to stay out past their curfew to see the concert.

Where'd you hear that? That's not true at all.
This is from www.allmusic.com :
Quote:

The band's southern Californian musical roots were also an underlying basis, for drummer Rob Bourdon, guitarist Brad Delson, and MC/vocalist Mike Shinoda formed a tight friendship while still in high school. Shortly after graduation, art student and DJ Joseph Hahn hooked up with bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell and Shinoda for the band, Xero. Hybrid Theory came later, but the band opted on the name Linkin Park when singer Chester Bennington was the last piece added to the band in 1999.

Maybe when I was younger, I would have.. but in the last year or so I've grown up a lot regarding other peoples choices. If someone wants to listen to someone screeching, so be it; Its not my place to judge. It might not be for me, but that certainly doesn't make it wrong.. and on the same note, if I want to listen to some bongos with a classical score, I don't want anyone derogatorily commenting on my choice.. as it really isn't any of their business.

The only two issues I have with Nu Metal are: Teen angst and the fact that people are under the impression that it's actually heavy.
