Fusible Plates. I hate pressure cookers.

I'm really starting to fucking hate pressure cookers. I've followed the instructions meticulously and it doesnt matter what I do.. the fusible plate bursts. I've had to replace it 4 times now. >=| Even on the lowest heat setting, it busts. I don't get it.. The vent isn't being blocked.. theres nothing that could block it!! This is driving my nuts! How the hell do you use your pressure cookers? 1. 1" water in the bottom.. 2. Medium heat till the vent is rocking. 3. Lowest heat till the duration of cooking is done. 4. Take off the heat, and let cool.. It keeps bursting during step 3.. is my P.C. faulty? =(

Buy an All-American pressure cooker and you'll never look back.

Hmm! I determined that it was something blocking the weighted vent pipe, afterall.. now the problem thats really getting me is where this material is coming from! I can load up the P.C. totally empty, and clean.. with the steel cake cooling rack in the bottom, tap water, and a splash of vinagear.. (to keep the jars from getting residue on them) -Aluminum PC -Steel rack -White Vinagear -Tap water (very palatable, not hard water, ph unknown) Pressure cook those things, and it generates this reddish brown stuff.. it looks like rust dust almost, except that nothing in the pot rusts, or has any indication of rust on it afterwards.. I have no clue where its coming from, but its whats plugging up the works, and popping the fuseable plates (they're a sort of safety blow valve.. thin metal the breaks when the pressure gets too high).. I've always done this using boiling water in a steel pot, with no problems.. why would the aluminum pc cause this stuff to come around? Anyone know the answer to this mystery, as it has got me stumped.

With Annos insight and expertise on pretty much everything, it turns out I was basically changing my PC into a battery, and corroding the aluminum. :P http://www.terrific-scientific.co.uk/Topics/Corrosion/Explain/Corrosion-7.htm What I learned today: Steel and aluminum don't play well.
