I'm using the the metal threads that came along with the loop that I got from a sponsor!  The funny thing is that this problem didn't occur the first time I used it, but maybe I wasn't using my propane torch that time.  I might just have to use a lighter for my loop, if it just can't handle the heat, so to speak... puns 'n rhymes, lol.

Trying to get a sense of how many tubs I would need to harvest at one time to get approximately 3000g dried.

I am new, but do already understand that harvests weights are extremely variable based on many variables.

Just wondering what to expect from an "average" monotub harvest dried per flush. My friend is doing a double tub of APE and claims that he should get about 50g dried per flush per tub. Is this accurate?

Take it easy on me.

Never seen those. I started with a wooden BBQ skewer garbage bags ties and tape. Worked well for awhile.

Thanks for the reply Munchauzen.
When you say 10-15 would that be of any variety in particular? And would that be 10-15 48qt tubs or 60qt tubs?

I found some really good reading here on Trich for those interested. There's a lot to learn.

Here's a link: http://eprints.maynoothuniversity.ie/5676/1/Molecular%20and%20Epidemiological%20Studies%20on%20%20Trichoderma%20aggressivum%20f.%20europaeum.pdf

A wee quote:

"1.5.4 Epidemiology and spread
The epidemiology of Trichoderma aggressivum is a complex, multifactorial prob-
lem. Researchers have described the activities of T. aggressivum in laboratory
and farm scale experiments and in industry (Grogan et al., 1996; Seaby, 1996b;
Chen et al., 1999b; Royse et al., 1999; Rinker & Alm, 2000; Beyer et al., 2000).
Results sometimes vary between researchers as the conditions and materials used
in mushroom production worldwide vary considerably and T. aggressivum infec-
tion can progress differently in vitro than in a larger scale.
In the mushroom industry there is usually a delay between the time of in-
fection and the first observation of symptoms, which can make pin-pointing the
point of entry difficult. The severity of infection can depend upon the point at
which T. aggressivum is introduced, the type of spawn used, compost quality and
probably the subspecies and strain of T. aggressivum in question, all of which
vary between producers and over time. These factors can complicate investiga-
tions into the epidemiology of T. aggressivum."

"Infection of substrate at spawn-
ing has been shown to reduce yields considerably more than after the substrate
is colonised by A. bisporus (Rinker, 1997; Beyer et al., 2000) so the exclusion
of T. aggressivum from this process is a high priority for mushroom producers.
Contamination of the spawn itself with T. aggressivum has been blamed for the
introduction of the fungus, although considering the level of sanitation used in
the production of spawn this seems unlikely. "

My experience with growing out clones is non existent, but I believe I remember reading that the clones genetics are set, and you won't get any other genetics from that mushroom unless you collect its spores. I'm not 100 percent sure, but I'm sure if someone will correct me. I think only factor with clone isolates is taking a transfer that is further from any contams if there are any on the plate.

Nah, with clones, if they are from a multi spore grow the fruits are set with several genetics.  Mycelium straight from clone will still have several families/strains of mycelium.  Mycelium straight from clone once in a while will bust a single sector isolate but it's not very common.

The last sentence doesn't make sense.  I think you mean if you clone from pinhead, the myce will be multiplying/running so fast that if you take leading edge transfers of a culture of that nature that the myce has a chance of out running any contams present.  You have to take the transfers before the culture hits the walls, though, or the contams will catch up.

Yeah, while I appreciate the effort abductee and dhype spent, they didn't really grasp what I was asking (and that's okay) or give me anything I didn't already know.

ham,

When making an isolate, do you usually start from a first-flush clone and transfer out each sector or what? I feel like I'd just prefer to take an ass-load of clones to stockpile proven genetics, but an isolate sounds sexy.

Here's my issue with cloning: Let's say a clone has 8 sets of genetics in there that sector out. I'd be afraid of taking transfers of genetics that don't fruit. How would I combat this? Let the whole plate wedge overtake the plate so anastomosis sets in? Or have the genetics already grown together in such a short period of time that each sector would have all genetics throughout? Help me!

Take different sectors, a,b,c for example, let those sectors grow out in their own plate and then take a wedge from each plate and put that to spawn. Grow it out and see which isolate was best a, b, or c.

Hi guys,

Total n00b here - first grow and a very weird one - I used an "all-in-one" grow bag. Instructions with the bag were minimal and I expected to grow the shrooms in the bag, however I saw what I thought was pinning inside the bag and decided to open it and place in my chamber (automated setup with raspberry pi, humudifier etc)

What are your thoughts - is this indeed pinning?

I've grown about six monos and 8 dub tubs and I'm still trying to figure out thenprimordia knots. I think those little bumps along the sides have the ability to form pins. Now you gotta keep it moist. It looks dry to me, I've never done cakes, but I think you can dunk it and roll it in vermiculite. To help keep the moisture.

So last night my wife asked what I want for my birthday. I said mycology supplies of course. She rolled her eyes and said that this isn't a real hobby,  I just want drugs. Shocked, being as I've been doing this for 2 years (mostly hunting) and just now tried an active grow for the first time. So this morning I sent her a long ass text. Sorry it's long,  but I shut that shit down! It's not often my wife admits she was wrong lol. Here it is:

Some really interesting information here about Trich and how it is effected by sterilization/pasteurization etc...

The more you know, the more you grow...

Has anybody on here messed around with growing cubes on coir treated with alkaline water?

Seems like a good idea from what I'm reading.
