I thought I was bad.. I suppose none of us are perfect..

My best advice would be AA (relating to people) and of coarse you don't want to induce a physical withdraw so some alcohol is needed.. I'd say try a couple shots and an IPA and then eventually just a few IPA's.. I'm no doctor and by no means an expert on this type of treatment but ultimately it is up to you and your will power.. Mind you this wont be easy regardless but you shouldn't risk your life on a withdraw so you do need to find the balance and tip the scale in your favor my friend.

I was a functioning, probably low level (compared to some anyway) alcoholic for several years. Literally nearly everyday I tossed back a 6 pack and a half pint of Jager before going to bed. Might not sound like much at all but man add all that up over the course of like 4-ish years, and that's a lot of alcohol. And a whole hell of a lot of money exiting my bank account.

But yeah when I stopped, it was pretty rough. I got the shakes. Maybe minor shakes but they were there. And in the aftermath my anxiety was pretty fucking high to say the least. I could barely function in a conversation without wanting to grab a drink.

Congrats mushboy.  A little over three and a half months absent here.  Since my last post in this thread, i did end up having a simple partial seizure and DT(DTs are psychosis with hallucinations and fever) episode.  It really does get remarkably bad after a while.  There comes a point where the only comfort is unconsciousness, with the extinction ov the buzz and the only other choices being sickly miserable drunkenness or terrible withdrawal.

That being said i miss alcohol and even some aspects ov alcoholism.  I wish that i could drink on occasion and reap the benefits this great and equally terrible substance has to offer, but i cant do that for long before the bottle tips over and drowns me again.  It's more ov a necessity to abstain than a desire.  Job loss, 7 alcohol induced hospitalizations in 1.5 years, and 2 supervised detox stints.  It gets a bit pressing to say the least.

I'm at about 2 months and 3 days over here. A new record. Detoxed too many damn times. Now I'm hopelessly addicted to other empty carbohydrates like starbursts and skittles. I eat at least 3 apples a day to keep from rotting my teeth out.

believe it or not apples are estimates to be 4 times worse for your teeth than carbonated sodas. youre supposed to eat them fast to avoid this. i eat a bunch too, 2-3 a day

:waitwhatthehell:

oh yea.. the pub.

i crave candy and shit too. i think its because booze was such a reward for everything i did.
thats where my candy cravings come from. its more about quickly rewarding yourself. something our society feeds like drug habit in itself.

so i jerk off more, smoke more weed.. i the wife blows me wwaaayyy more often since im not a gross mess.

beyond that i have no cravings or desire for booze. sometimes i do but i can never justify it beyond a selfish desire.

So I had a bad night a few nights ago and decided its time to stop drinking but ive been moderate to extremely heavy for 10 years. Last few months ive been doing about 750ml of whiskey a day.

I have no insurance but I'm feeling really nasty. Not mind but body.
I get what feels like a panic attack onset but it fizzlez out.

I think my b12 is fucked because I have like every symptom of anemia(b12 helps to make red blood cells)

I'd love to go to a hospital just for piece of mind and continue to detox by limiting whiskey to 2-3 shots ...maybe I should consume more to curve withdrawl but I'm sick of booze to no end.

Thanks for reading my crap

Oops should be in well being forum??

I went through the same shit. It can be a long difficult road, but I can be done. I took up chocolate. Sounds dumb, but it helps.

The trick is to stay busy. Boredom is the devil.

Do you have anyone in your corner fighting for you? Do you have anyone you can call if the urges start coming on? I bet somewhere here on the shroomery wouldn't mind talking with you over the phone.

Just know that sobriety can be accomplished, but only by you. You do what works best for you. Your road might be different than mine, but we are both headed to the same place.

Stay strong.

A few things that helped me...

Working out
Sweets
Video games
Family
Reading

I was also taking magnesium at night too. I still do.

Oh, that nasty body feeling will leave. Drink lots of water and Gatorade. Start eating fruit too.

drinking is fine. in fact i would encourage it within reason but
do NOT go down that road of thinking your a rockstar and you can
chug whiskey all day and use people who barely escaped death
as role models.

Even "within reason", I really don't believe it can be justifiable to drink socially or moderately for you, or anyone that has become addicted to alcohol.

So many nights after months, or even close to a year of not drinking, I'd reward myself of course with a drink for doing activities that made me feel good. Hiking, MTB, etc.

First night I would always be all responsible and drink a couple dank beers at an awesome ski town bar.
2 days later I'd wake up with a handle of whiskey and a case of shitty beer empty, strewn all over my house, with my best friend cooking crack in my loft and jacking off in the closet . This hasn't happened for close to 4 years. But I remember it vividly as it became an every day occurrence for quite some time. (not the friend whacking it in the closed deal)
My saving grace was that having had a severe opioid addiction for 4 years of my life while young, I noticed when my brain and body were becoming addicted. I still pushed it. But pulled out before any serious DT's. Super mild ones, in fact (but I feel your pain. detoxed from Klonopin in jail...fuck). Got back in shape and the rest is history.

I've done (still am) doing drug therapy classes to deal with my opiate addiction that I've been clean 9 years from. At least finding root problems, and even though I have no desires nowadays to indulge in those drugs, I'm sure if I was presented with a bag of H right now, I'd have a real fucking hard time turning it down.

To deal with what I believe to be pretty bad alcoholism for about two years shortly after becoming a member here, drug counseling has also been pretty wonderful.

I do relationship therapy as well after the the despicable hellhole my ex put me through. In which a lot of our problems stemmed from putting me down during recovery, in which I was was and am doing wonderfully. Haven't been drunk in years. Haven't had a drink in well over a year.

With any addictive drug, what I find hardest is all the activities you enjoyed before you became an addict, but then associated those activities with drinking or drugs. You have to force yourself to go do those activities again without being fucked up. It will be boring and shitty at first. Maybe for a year or longer, but you will learn to love it again.

Wish you the best, man. As people have mentioned, there's a lot of members on here willing to help out. Whether through PM or phone calls or emails. What have you.
I'm here if you need me bud.

(Oh, yea. And mushrooms & weed have greatly helped me through this fucked up journey)
