1 term
    #2436580 - 03/15/04 09:49 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I was wondering today how things might be different if politicians could only serve 1 term. Maybe if they coulndn't get re-elected, they'd actually start worrying about the issues themselves, not what the latest public opinion polls said, and actually get something done. But then again, this could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the politician. It might also leave more opportunity for power-hungry politicians to abuse their power. In any case, I think such a scenario might just bring a little more honesty into politics, whatever that's worth. What do you think?

8 years for the executive branch, 12 years for the legislative, 20 for the judicial.

terms to run as they do currently. With of course the addition of terms for judges (federal).

I'll go along with that as long as the legislators can only meet for six months a year and no attaching of bills to one another. A separate vote for each proposal.

Had I known this would be so easy I'd have slipped in a 10 year term for me as "The Omnipotent One".

I don't think politicians who are serving one term would perform any differently than a politician in his last term does now.

So do presidents do better, worse, or the same in their last term versus their first term?
