truffles in the southeast?
    #2436130 - 03/15/04 08:13 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I was digging a set of stairs at the base of an oak tree and found a ball about 3 inches in diameter. It is fungus. Does anybody have any knowledge about truffles in the southeastern United States?

Cut it in half and show us what the inside looks like? Watch for color changes. Does it have a distinctive odor?

Happy mushrooming!

It's light in color with a slight odor of anise. No color change to mention.

We need either a photograph or a very detailed description of the appearance of the inside. Is there a columella? Is it solid all the way through? The the color uniform, marbled, veined ...? What color is it?

Happy mushrooming!
