No it isn't really necessary to pick them all at once, you can
pick them as they ripen.

I think its more for casings, when you want the next flush to
be nice and even, I don't think it makes a lot of difference
with cakes, so pick those bad boys :grin:

Hmmm... I always pick mine as they ripen off my casing... but when the first flush is done, I patch the casing for the next flush...

if you have a cluster of them growing and you want to pick the ripe one but not disturb the other, simply cut off the cap and leave the stem til the others grow out.  the stem will not grow and it wont rot either..  :laugh:
