Thats a good question, my feeling is to wait until the next drop and then invest. Thats my personal plan.
Its hard to say how long and high this current bubble will go. I feel it must be nearing its peak soon but this is only a guess.

Now is the time to sell, not buy. Remember, you're trying to buy low and sell high. Right now it's at an all time high. That means you're going to lose a lot of money in the short term if you invest now, and it'll take a long time for it to recover its current value.
Bitcoin goes up and down. Right now it's up. In a little while, it's going to be down again. Buy low, sell high. Another good peice of advice: buy on the rumor, sell on the news. Right now it's all over the news, this is another good indicator that it's a bad time to buy, and a good time to sell.
If I were you, I'd wait for it to get down to at least 600-800. I was personally holding out for $200-$300, but it didn't go that low the last time it crashed.

Considering politics, I don't think Bitcoin is gonna come down anytime soon. I bought one just before it crossed 2k last Saturday morning, I'm already up ~200.
Gold has recently been spiking too, but overall, I think this is a symptom of a failing USD more so than anything specific to cryptocurrency/non-currency financials. Euro is at a high since election day, Yen is going up, it seems that at this point you just want to turn USD into *not* USD and sit for a little while, see what Trump does.
That being said, over the last two weeks I'm thinking US stocks is also a bad plan. If you rode the Trump wave from December to now, good on you, but I think you should probably get off now, seeing as how they recover less and less after every scandal, and after the whole intelligence thing, it seems like stocks didn't recover.

Also, China's credit rating just went down according to one of the rating bureaus. Not all, just Moody. This came with an immediate drop in Chinese stock and Yuan value, and an immediate spike in Bitcoin price. Interesting, considering that China has been somewhat anti-bitcoin for some time, having gone from ~60% Bitcoin market share to ~10% over the last year and change.
I'm guessing Bitcoin will continue climbing (2400 and counting...) rapidly.
I did however watch someone sell a block of 650 BTC for 2404$ this morning...then the price kept going up.

What other cryptocurrencies that are out there going to be the next bit coin mania? I've done some reading and I have $ to invest but I'm not experienced in the buying and selling of the cryptodenero world. When bitcoin comes down under $800 I'll probably buy depending on what these other currencies do.

I wouldn't count on Bitcoin falling below $800... and frankly if it does, that would be a sign to steer clear of it, not buy it. If you want to read about the two front runners and a new kid on the block, check out: Cryptocurrency Big Dogs: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Tezos (XTZ)

I invested in bitcoin because it was a crypto currency and sounded interesting. Thats called gambling. I sold it all when ethereum had a all time high of 106 because i believed it was a better product and had more potential. It jumped up to 180 then dipped to 130 which was a perfect opportunity to drop some extra money on more ethereum.
Invest in something you believe will succeed or you will lose money trying to short different coins when they dip or correct 10-20%. Time in market>timing in market if you'd have invested in just about any of the big cryptocurrencies ever you would have made money

Theres plenty of time still. The currency is far from settling down, its comparative value is only going one way.
Right now its in a bit of hype but wait for this to settle and flatline then buy in and wait for the next boom... or the boom after that...
depends on your long term aim. Everyone should be holding at least 1 bitcoin in their long term investment plan.

It seems most large cannabis seed vendors are accepting credit cards less and less. Everyone of them excepts bitcoin for payment. Pisses me off I dont know shit about bitcoin. A guy I worked with years ago was buying machines that generate bitcoins, he was spending stupid amounts of money on them... I thought he was nuts. He was also buying them when he could afford them. He had almost 500 bitcoin before he quit working at my shop togo someplace else, this was about 3 years ago. I remembered he was all sorts of dorking out because the price shot up to like $150 per coin... dude must be loaded now.

You're better off investing in other coins at this point. The margins are way higher if you play your cards right. I put 2 grand into Ethereum in early 2016 and it's worth quite a bit now. (30x)

^ Bitcoin could break $100,000 per coin in 10 years
I hope it breaks 6k within 3 years - thats my plan, buy in when this settles, hopefully at about 1000 per coin then wait a few years. If I bought 5 coins at 1000 and it broke 6000 within 3 years I could buy a decent apartment here.

Banks or the govt have nothing to do with it. You can mine these with your computer (Calculate transactions in return for small amounts of coins) or you can buy it from an exchange. Also you can buy them from other people

21 days later. BTC 2639$ Edit: I came back to elaborate on what this silly comment was about. and to answer CLIT you can buy them on coinbase.com Bitcoin was unique in its use of the blockchain but new currencies emerge utilizing the blockchain and even blockchain++ technologies that i am implying by the plus signs. Such as Tezos in which they encorporated parts of DASHs specific designs to enhance the speed of transacting.
We just had a huge market sign of the ETH being so backlogged that exchanges declined deposits in ETH. They will start making forks in the blockchain again. Tezos is a big dog with fast legs. its never too late baby.
