Yes, it's the web.

Oh yea. Id throw it out, its probly done with. If you want you could try to fight it with some H2O2. Get the cobweb off and spray. Seperate that from any other cakes.

If you let your mushrooms grow with cobweb contams around, the cobweb will eventually reach the fruits and make them soft and crappy. Not all that harmless :P

That's a pretty big infection compared to that cake... I doubt you will win without destroying the mycelium.

It needs to be isolated Immediatly! As a matter of fact, any healthy cakes need to be transfered somewhere else as well. This stuff can spread through air and water, so your terrarium needs to be cleaned as well. Spores are killed at about 120 deg F for 1/2 hour.

It's pretty rare that I see this stuff on strait substrate so it probably started from those brown things you are using for moisture and just found something to feed on. Next time pasturize those things if possible. Also, make sure there is enough air exchange, there are lots of anaerobic "nasties" that are just waiting for you to forget to fan.

Looks like the cake wasn't completely colonized.

I wouldn't risk it, just throw that crap out.

I've read good things about the bleach dunk.  I bet that it could fight off that mean web, then you could just isolate it in its own terrarium (like a jar).  But I wouldn't listen to me alone, ask someone in the contam forum about these suggestions.  :oogle:

Good luck, though  :mushroom2:

Like I said, you can beat the cobweb but it's going to take a bleach or H2O2 solution strong or long enough and unless you just have some super mycelium growing on the cake, it's toast.
