Hepatitis C
    #2432905 - 03/14/04 11:58 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I did something stupid recently. My friend's dad told me how to do homemade tattoos with a needle and india ink. So i was hanging out with my buddy and his dad (who has hepatitis c) and his dad gave himself a tattoo to show me how its done. he dug pretty deep but I didn't see any blood get drawn. Later, not thinking, and being drunk and on valium, I gave myself a little scratch tattoo to see if it would work. A few minutes later i realized what I'd done and wiped my scratch with hydrogen peroxide and soap and water. After my friends dad gave himself a tattoo I washed the needle with hot water and soap but do you think thats enough? Do you think i could've contracted it?? I didn't scratch too deep. FUCK IM AN IDIOT. i hate alcohol. What happens with hepatitis c?? Is it deadly? Godamn i'm kinda scared cause now if I have sex with a girl she might get it too. anyone have any answers?

GET CHECKED OUT!

That said you are probably safe because it's a different kind of needle right? Isn't it just a pin?

With AIDS the way it is shared with hypodermic needles is by having dry blood on the end of both bits of the needle and having fresh(non Airborn) blood in between them, keepinng the disease alive. This information was relayed to me from a speaker at school so take it as is. Also I don't know if Hep.C and AIDS work the same as far as transference.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah it was just a sewing needle... I didnt see any fresh or dried blood on it whatsoever but still i'm freaked out badly. my friend said that his dad has had it for a long long time and that it isnt even that serious of a disease but i dont know...

If you say 'hepatitis c' in Mexico, do they think you're saying 'hepatitis, yes'?

I have a friend with hepatitis c. It fucks with your liver and you have to take medication for the rest of your life I think or maybe just a few years I don't remember. You should get checked out, though as needles are the most common method of transmission.

If the needle was washed you are probally fine.
Still get checked! its a cheap test, I took one myself after a suprisingly similiar situation.
Hepatitus C is very bad though..you can live a long time with it but it sucks and gets worse with age..when your count goes down

Yeah, there's a good chance you won't have gotten it but that said there is also a chance you could have.  If you have, as long as you know you have it and get the medication for it now you can live a long and fairly normal life.

It's not the end of the world if you do have it, the way medication and healthcare is now.  But get tested man, and best wishes!  Nothing worse than not knowing and having that nag in the back of your mind.

Either way, you'll be fine   Rock on.

Hep C is very contagious and washing the needle will not have killed the virus. It would take an undiluted bleach solution to do that.
I think your friends dad is an irresponsible fool for leaving the needle lying around as he should know better.
80% of people who contract it have no signs or symptons and 5 out of ten people can be rid of it with treatment.
Go and get a blood test please!!!!

i have had the same fear, i shared needles several times with a girl i was datin when i was young and stupid and it turned out later she have had hep c since the beginning, i checked myself and again a year later just to make sure as soon as i found out but i never got infected with it, so i would say the chance for you having it isnt necesarry that big but like everyone else have allready adviced you to do; go get it checked
