I don't sterilize my perlite. I don't think it's neccecary.

no you shouldnt heat the syringe, cause there is a chance of you killing the spores. I put the perlite in the microwave for 5 minutes and that steralizes it just fine. And finally yes, you should tape your inoculation holes, because if you dont, water will leak in throwing off your substrate levels.

nerd what are you talking about "you shouldn't heat up the syringe needle" YES YOU SHOULD you should use a alcohol lamp or butane lighter to heat sterilize the syringe needle before each inoculation. read EVER bit of info (no need to go through each individual post) but read all the info available. when you heat sterilie the needle with a flame the small bit of spore water in the needle squits out.
