Kinda POWEROFPLANTS, but have you heard of stop and frisk? This can happen to anyone looking for psilocybe or other actives. Happened to me about 2 years ago. I was just diong my thing near a hiking trail. A cop drove by, stopped 20 yards away, backed his car up, asked what I was doing. When I told him I was out for a walk he exclaimed "IN THE WEEDS!?" They ran my license and screwed with my friend for a min. Then another patrol car came and tried to watch us but we both have a keen eye from hunting. If those cops had been slightly less retarded, they probably would have caught me holding a few boomers. My thing is even when you are on public land the cops still can fuck with you. Unless you have dealt with police tactics before, you could easily screw up your story, say something you shouldn't, self incriminate, etc. That's if you are only hunting boomers. What if you are hunting and you light a doobie? That thing is now a smell beacon of your criminal activity. I'm saying watch your ass and know your rights. Stay safe out there

Patriot act lets cops shake any body down for no reason. Stay alert, stay alive at all times. No when your trespassing and act accordingly. Keep pets on leash, no litter or cig butts left. Remain low profile. Act normal and not out of place. Remain calm when approached.

I find it hard to believe that a cop would interrogate some random individuals going for a hike unless there was definitely suspicion to believe they were hunting active mushrooms. Many people go for long walks and hikes through fields and the woods, families, teenagers, middle aged people, couples, it's a very common outdoor past time during the months when the weather is ideal.
I never understood how law enforcement would assume that an individual is looking for mushrooms or that they would really care if so. You can't prevent what grows out of the earth and law enforcement definitely have other issues to worry about. There are plenty of non active species and many people have a general interest in foraging and mycology so a cop shouldn't just assume the worst, although unfortunately some would do that just to fuck with somebody and it's sad really if they have nothing better to do. I believe it's due to the funny hippie reputation and cops just trying to take advantage of that stereotype if that's how you present yourself.
Either way if I was approached by law enforcement while going for a hike I'd definitely speak my rights. You legally don't have to talk to the police and they can't just search you without probable cause if I'm correct. It's a crazy world that we live in when there are people that are simply enjoying the nice weather outdoors that may be stopped and accused of hunting for majic mushrooms when that may not even be the case

Ive heard stories of cops camping out by the oregon coast, looking for pickers, as Adden described.
They "know" what the people look like who hunt shrooms down in obvious places like the coast.
