I finally bought some coins. It's addicting. Thanks for all the info. I can't believe I waited this long. I hope I'm not too late for this ride.

probably not too late but it's hard to say, 2018 will be an interesting year for cryptos. I'm worried for most of them. I think at some point there's going to be a major crash with only a fraction of the market being survivors. Don't know when or if it will but I just find that very likely at some point.

2018 gone be wild, if SALT lending make it its gone be crazy.

Using salt as colateral for loan and re invest in crypto, repay your loan and go on.

ALOT of money will flow in, since people will have acess to more money

But that only if it works, lending being one of the most regulated market in the world.

Risky but i bought sub 3 got my fingers crossed on this one. Cant wait to have my first crypto loan

People buying cryptos on margin, what could go wrong with that? 1929 here we go again.

I plan on stacking Iridium Rhodium and Platinum to store some gains in physical form. Im going to go the unusal route of buying catalytic converters from people with junk cars in their yard however. I can get 50% more out of my investment that way, and those metals acrue value far more faster then Gold or silver.

On Bitfinex, anyway, you have to have enough in your wallet to cover any margin you take.

yea if the colateral is the same amount as the loan then what is the risk?

the only thing i dont understand is if the coleteral being salt decrease in value how will the loan decrease if its already invested in another crypto  :uhoh:

I invested around $700 in BTC, Bitcoin Cash, litecoin, & ETH. It probably wasn't smart spending all my savings but I just started a new job working 60-80 hours @12hr and i only have my phone and car insurance for bills I'm living in my SUV so I'm not too worried about it.

Curious why XRP is on the rise at the moment.

I bought some when it was at $.6.. missed it at $.4. But I barely bought any and planned on it being a long term investment. But now with the current price I'm wondering if it as a bump and dump and I could sell and rebuy for a gain, and continue to hold for my long term plan..

Any thoughts on XRP and why its rising right now when a lot of the market seems in the red?

Cool.

I guess I'll just sit on it as planned.

Really wish I would have had the funds at the time for more and was able to have got it when I wanted...

But still seems like it will at least make me a little extra money..

Thanks for the reply Bodhi

Asante, your plan would have worked if you did it yesterday, today btc is down so that gold will be expensive. I do understand the lure of metals, I have some myself, should pick up a little platinum since I have none. Buying alts with borrowed money means you are leveraged more than ever.

If we close red today, this will be the first 5 day string of negative closes for BTC in over three months.  Definitely makes the market feel a bit heavy, but taken in a broader view, all of my other crypto holdings are substantially higher than they were a week ago.  This dynamic is confirmed by BTC's market share dropping below 50%.  There is a rotation taking place, and while this may mean that the 'high tide which lifted all boats' may be pulling back, I'm not certain that it is going to spell disaster for the aggregate market.  Nevertheless, we have seen a very rapid rise over the entire sector this year, and so it would only make sense that the buying pressure is due to ebb a bit.  Tread cautiously, this is not the time to chase.

Yeah, thats true crypto overall has dropped some the last few days. I don't see it as a harbinger of bad times, I don't think btc will drop much more before rebounding. Of course I've always been the optimist on that, but so far my predictions have come about along with those of many others who thought the same thing.

What we want to look at is are the reasons for btc and other cryptos and their rapid rise still valid or has something changed significantly? It and the alts are still very good ways to store and move money. Lately btc has become unwieldy for small transactions due to greedy miner fees. They are working hard on implementing the segwit improvements and once they get them in place transactions will speed up dramatically. Let the weak investors dump their coin, I'll pick it up and hold like I have been doing. I only trade with a tiny portion of my holdings at any given time.

My recent strategy of selling when it was high and hoping for a pullback has paid off. I've been able to pick back up all that coin at a discount, got some more today. So that locks in a profit, now all that needs to happen is for coin to go back up. It will, if its not double what it is today in a year I'll eat my hat!

With the alts I'm just playing around, have not put over a few hundred or so in anything but iota, not sure if I will double down on that or not. I'd rather go heavy on something with a good background of devs, good adoption and so on. I also look at the charts but have jumped into a few just cause everyone was doing it, lol. Playing around but it seems to work so far. I think the tide is still coming in but if it was steady, 5 or 10% gain every day then it would get pumped to the moon and even more pullback. So an occasional drop whether by manipulation or popular sentiment is not a bad thing at all, imo. Even the weak alts will have their day many of them.

From what I understood, there are increased XRP trials in Asia which probably accounts for a good deal of demand.

its also fast and can handle large numbers of transactions at low cost which is ideal for institutional money transfers.

When bitcoin was almost 20k the market cap was flucuating somewhere between 600-640 billion. Bitcoin has dropped a fair amount and the market cap is still 615 billion, this is just another typical trend that seems more drastic because of the amount of money now involved up until now when it was doing the same thing. Tide goes in and tide goes out. Money is flowing out of bitcoin to alts and it will flow out of alts back into bitcoin and both sides of that are necessary.

There's a chance bitcoin will drop even more but even if it does it just means more bitcoin for me and worst case the alts I've made massive gains on will lose only some of those gains

To anyone reading please keep in mind that MOST crypto is trash and scams, high gains for relatively small amounts of money are tempting but don't be an idiot and be on the wrong side of the pump and dump that you fell into. Read into what you invest in instead of banking on luck.

That's good advice shrooms.

And I agree that unless a coin matches BTC market cap, BTC will remain king.

BTC will rebound. Because it is still worth much more than it is currently priced at.

So are other coins.

There are good opportunities for long term investment and the volatility makes opportunity for large short term gains possible as well.

But that's just my view

XLM, follow ripple please
