Thanks mate. Helps having a well written guide Inoculated some agar with it yesterday. Didn't bend or anything. Really sturdy and easy to use tool. First ever round of inoculation, just waiting to see how clean and thorough I was.
Also wanted to thank you for all your teks / guides. Been plenty of reading, but a lot of help too.

I just used 1ul tiny displosable plastic loops.
My concern with it being so small does it still transfer enough spores?
Something about not squirting a drop feels like i didnt do anything to innoc my plates lol

When one flames the wire or scaple, syringe gets black suut on it, does that have to be cleaned with ISO and it seems hardcore to flame red hot like these contams are so resilant and stuff only red hot will kill them!?
And like with a syringe can the heat kill the spores so wait till cooler then clean with ISO?
Thanks...

Has anyone tried hooking a coiled up version of a loop to a vape mod? Just like you would make a vape coil, but leave the leads really long (and not twisted up), so only the coiled loop section at the end heats up. One end could be the main loop, so you have 2 ends to work with each time. Or would it wick up too much solution?
Anyway, you could just push the button to fire it up and burn it off between use, instead of having to flame it each time, they way i'm thinking about it...
I was looking through my vape supplies to get some kanthal wire for this tek, to make my own little tool, and couldn't help but wonder if some one used a vape mod as the handle, so they could sterilize with battery power...

I have no idea what to search for to find the post but yes this has been done.

Nice! I have lots of old vape mods laying around, and a few spools of different kinds of wire. I'll see if I can come up with a nice looking tool, and be able to make a bunch of coils up, so i'm always ready to go.
I'll search for the threads you speak of tonight to see how good it works, before I get too involved. In the meantime, I'll be twisting a few up

Sorry your question got overlooked, but no, the black soot doesn't hurt anything. Yes, many contams are that resilient. It just seems hardcore to us because our meatsacks are pathetically fragile.

No, never wipe sterile tools!
- Dip your inoculation loop, scalpel, or whathaveyou into a sterile agar dish to cool it.
- Just plunge the syringe, the flowing liquid cools the needle almost instantly.

Does Galvanized wire hold up to hitting it with a torch?
I used some 19 gauge and it came out looking ok... I just don't know if that protective layer of zinc is going to hurt me or my attempts at mycology somehow.

don't used galvanized the zinc layer will peel off after repeated heat cycles. probably don't have to worry about inhaling vapors at torch temperatures, but that's also bad if it does happen
