ID request!!! Potentially Gymnopilus Spectabilis
    #24285666 - 05/01/17 12:21 AM (6 years, 10 months ago)

I've researched different Gymnopilus species and am not sure of the potency of each and whether or not this is active at all. Any feedback would be helpful

Habitat:
Grew at the trunk of a tree, in bark chips. Found in South Australia and has been raining lately

Stem and Cap:
Varying lengths of stems and caps, all with yellow/ orange colour. Stems were all thick and hard.

Bruising:
Little to no visible bruising after half an hour

Those are definitely gyms. I'm not sure on species. But someone will know, or have an idea. Bruising goes with potency. Try and check the smaller newer pins for signs of bruising. It tends to show up better on younger specimens. And for potency, it can vary greatly. I've heard of some that are at the same levels of most psilocybin containing mushrooms (RARE). And I've heard of some so low, you need to consume 50 grams dried. If I were you, I'd make a tea out of them and accept wherever it takes you.

PS: always wait for a trusted identifier in any case

It is likely the same species and neither G. spectabilis or G. junonius (which as far as I am aware are the same thing) I think with some decent microscopy we would probably learn what we have here in Aus/NZ is something else altogether and also not active anywhere near the extent of it's overseas counterparts.
