The ladies at the Thai grocery looked at me like I had five eyes when I asked for A-gar. Then I said ah-gar. Then I said "Telephone Brand" and they lit up like "OHHHHH"

i live near a pumping station canal, at night you can see alligator gar, illuminated by the freeway lights, floating near the surface. freaky prehistoric fish. some times there are alligator in there too. fun place to go drink beer and zone out for hours.

That sounds fun! I'm jealous, I miss the south
Have you ever seen the gar roll during their mating season? It's crazy!!
I love armored fish
One time I was at a swamp with a pile of alligator gar and a huge one (at least 6ft) kept staring at me (or so I thought). So from about 10 ft away I shot it right in the face with a 12 ga bird shell. The fuckin pellets bounced off and that thing looked at me like "why'd you do that you asshole?" gar are so cool
Ooo speaking of reptiles, alligator is good but you know what's CRAZY good? alligator snapping turtle. They look like dinosaurs and are actually pretty dangerous. They have Like 6 kinds of meat in them (some like white meat, some like fish, some dark, etc), but they are damned disgusting to clean
My friend killed one once and found a spear point in it while cleaning it (from a native American who knows how long ago!!!)
