Is it because jiffy is treated with lime? Good examples btw

It's great for quick release nutes in plants but they degrade quicky.
I'm assuming it's the lime

I'm betting this one. I have had issues with an almost clear bacteria that hides in the mycelium. Wasn't until I was cleaning old plates that I caught onto what was going on. I hope I can get rid of it soon. It is not very dry here so I don't think that it. I had always suspected bacteria was the cause.

Jiffys like 60% peat 40%verm with added lime in it. I think so it doesn't mold with plants or w.e

I've had extremely good success using peat verm mixes. Usually get a really good pinset. Perfect microclimate

Matted mycelium is a symptom of dehydrated mycelium. Once mycelium dries it form a hardened mat in which fruits won't form upon.
Saying your climate is dry was only a guess. Either the substrate's moisture capacity isn't correct, or the substrate is being allowed too much air during spawn run causing the substrate dry up.

Here we go, my Purple Mystic, 1 pint cake spawned to 1 QT cvg. There are some issues, the crack in sub is from tub bottom flexing. Got the one big shroom. Sub is only 1 inch thick and its just under 4 inch and veil is just now breaking. Bigger than any of the shrooms the Costa Rica variety gave me.
