Contamination in a mushroom growkit

Hi everyone.
We bought an ez-grow mushroom kit produced by procare, and we are experiencing some problems with mold. We were just wondering wether or not this could be caused by us during the growing, or by the producers during the preparation. In this grow-kit, everything is ready, the mycelium is grown and the spores are already in it. We didnt do any sterilization or anything, we just took off the lid, put the amount of water as described and put it in the plastic bag from the grow kit.
Here are some pictures:

We assume we cant eat these mushrooms, but we decided we wanted get some more opinions on it.

You CAN eat those mushrooms! Do the following: make some salt paste, mixing a lot of salt with a bit of water and generously smear it onto the trich contaminated area and about half an inch beyond. But whatever you do, cover that tray and take it outside before you do it, because by just touching that shit you'll send millions of mold spores flying *everywhere* and that better not be your growing area! Harvest all the mushrooms right around that contam area immediately and clean them thoroughly before drying. Once salted they won't grow well any longer anyways. Once you got the contaminated area covered with the salt paste, wait for the rest of that flush to mature and then harvest them. Then cover that thing and take it outside. Bury it in the garden somewhere. If you are lucky, you'll see a few cubes still growing off that substrate.
Regarding finding out where the mold was introduced, it's really hard to tell. Could have been in there already - which I suspect, given how big a spot you got before the first flush already - or it could have been introduced by you.

It's not their sterile procedure or it wouldn't have fruited. From the looks of those fruits, I'd say they're suffering from insufficient fresh air, which is also the leading cause of green mold. RR

you would be better off sending this pic to the manufacturer to try and get a new kit. Also, next time, don't bump an 8 year old thread and introduce yourself here
