One of the supplies sponsor vendors sells liquid culture plastic lids with a Sryinge filter and SHIP already installed. A little pricey but they work great for me and I don't use a shitload of them anyway. Just make sure you get the lid gaskets also, makes a really good seal that way.

Gotcha. Yeah I don't do too much LC. Although I have 2 pint jars colonizing nicely right now. These days it's mostly A2G or G2G....

Indeed. Don't feel bad. Syringe filters are no good. Having the same issues with the airflow with a brand new set of those Whatman filters.

Tried to jump into stir plates and stir bars too quick and ran into problems with LC's. Since then it's been decided to return to the old method of a regular, plastic grain jar lid, pint sized wide mouth jars, broken glass to shred the culture, let colonize all the way to the top, shake once, and immediately draw the culture into syringes by removing the lid directly in front of a flow hood. It works for me everytime. You have to go with what works for you, as well as, research, and develop.
Been thinking about jumping back into the stir bars, and plates soon, and make a few modifications. One of them will be to NOT use Whatman syringe filters for gas exchange ports on LC. Who knows, the problem with the LC's during the time of research with magnetic stirplates, and stirbars could have solely been the fault of the syringe filters. Time will tell.

I just use a large jar, with a small amount of liquid, and no filter -IME there is enough air in the jar to get decent growth. It allows you shake the shit out of it with no worries which aerates the liquid and breaks up the myc well.
I do agar in unfiltered jars too. I did some grains in an unfiltered jar to see how far I could push it, this did stall, but had far more myc grown in it than you would see in a typical LC or agar jar.

Yea, I shake the crap out of my jars too, and don't worry. In one word, though, is the main reason I don't worry, and that word is flowhood.
The flowhood allows me to shake the crap out of the jars, and get the filter wet. So long as the filter once it's wet isn't removed from the sterile air flow of the hood nothing gets infected.
However, it's optimal to provide gas exchange to colonizing mycelium in a liquid medium, so that's what I prefer to do.
