Yea see? I haven't tried these yet but I used to ship them out, I worked in a warehouse that sold restaurant supplies. They're shallower than Glad Mini Rounds too which is nice, I think the lids will probably hold tight (my mini rounds fall apart sometimes if I knock em around) And they're wide too! Can grow cultures out big!

I find parafilm easy to use and I figure the 125 ft. roll of parafilm laboratory tape I got would easily suffice for over a thousand plates.

it will cover MANY, but nowhere near a thousand.
circumference is pi x diameter diameter of a typical petri is 90 mm 90 mm is 3.54331 inches 3.54331 x 3.14= 11.1259934 inches
11 inches rounded up to a foot. I wouldn't count on more than 130. That is a fuck load of agar

The calculation I used is much simpler. I simply cut a strip that is not too much wider than an inch. That suffices to wrap a single plate around its circumference, stretchy as parafilm is. So its basically 12 inches x 125 feet. Since I said it's maybe a little wider than an inch, I can just say about 10 x 125, which equals 1250, and thus easily over a thousand plates. If you you count the times I screw up with the parafilm, it's closer to a thousand. But if you are using two strips per plate, which will often be the case, one for when it is poured, and then one for after a transfer, I guess it would surely be closer to 500! Still pretty good though, inasmuch as my estimates are valid.

hey buddy, i am probably that asshole you read about doing 100-200 plates a day
i fuckin looooooooooove parafilm, woulndt dare do agar work without it. its one of those things that you learn to depend on a LOT in the lab, its so damned useful
i love all lab equipment, its always good to look at how the pros do whatever it is you are trying to do, and then learn from their techniques, etc
here is the video i first learned to wrap parafilm correctly from (was wasting soooooo much before this)
i will be making an agar tips thread or journal soon, will include lots of footage of some time saving tips and tricks for working with LOTS of plates, mainly just stuff i picked up from lab manuals and experience (and bodhi)
bods right about the air in the plate. parafilm is ideal and does provide GE, but for what most people are doing, it doesnt really matter since there is plenty of air to support the culture in the plate
DONT DONT DONT use micropore, it makes a mess and attracts contams, use parafilm or saran wrap
my workflow: i work in groups of 60, wrap each plate in parafilm as above, and then label and place each plate in an individual sandwich ziploc bag, so i can handle it freely without worry
i think a 1000+ sounds right for a 125' x 4" roll, but i usually get the 250' rolls. i always cut a 4 ft length , then pull out 4 ft more and clip em on top of each other, then use a retractable scalpel to cut 3/4" strips (2 at a time) and keep this stack handy

That left me with cling film that stuck to the roll more than to the petris.
Utility knife works great as well

Just got a few different brands of these types of containers and pc's some tonight.
One of the brands that I got had less see through of plastic as the others so I ended not even trying those.
Also the tops fit very solid I just hope that a few pc cycles will actually loosen them a bit.
I really like the fact that they really solid around the seal.
Will update asap...

I bought some parafilm and I have to say it's a dream to work with. I bought the 4" and just cut one strip for each plate. So fast and easy to work with.
And I can double use it as grafting tape.

Yeah I bought a few different kinds on amazon and finally only ended up trying two of them luckily as I just looked and all but one lid had holes melted in them and the one that didn't warped so bad a little touch smashed right through it. bummer
The containers seemed to hold up very well(other than the lid) so I was almost debating putting silicon between two lids and sandwiching them together although obviously that would take away being able to see through the lid. I just like the containers even if I had to see through the sides. probobly would still melt idk?

I'm saving up on PP5 airtight yoghurt containers, but at 2 a week, things are going slow... Ah well, at least I'm saving on the plastic waste AND I'm not spending extra on containers...
