Heavy pinset
    #2427056 - 03/13/04 12:34 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I'm fruting some malabars right now. 3 quart jars cased in straight coir. My first attempt at fruiting failed cause they dried out, too little humiditiy. So I scrathed off the casing and dunked overnight. Now, 10 days after re-fruiting, I have probably 100 pins on my casing. The first pins appeared at 5 days. I think some of the earlier pins are going to abort, but only time will tell. It seems to me though with so many pins they're maturing very slowly. My temp fluctuates between 72 and 80, and the humidity between 96 and 99 % rh. Do casings with this many pins typically mature slower? or could it be an environmental factor causing the lag, ie too much humidity.

What is an optimal range for rh after pinning has take place?

I didnt read through all that, but if you question is if heavy pinsets = slower maturity, then no that is not always the case. You will be getting much more abhorts, b/c the probability of all of them getting fully mature is highly unlikely.

for casing you want rh to be around 90%.

there shouldn't be any lag from a heavy pinset, but alot of moisture will be used. if you don't give enough air exchange and moisture you will be getting alot of abhorts and small mushrooms.
