Having a hard time getting pans colonize grains, any advice?

Especially pan cyan, it's like it doesn't even like grains. I also have a pan cambo going on, but it's doing kind of better than cyan.
Should I try poo-soaked grains or something? I'm using wheat atm.

a clean culture is all you need, pan myc looks different than cube myc so be extra careful when looking for mold on your plates.

i'm still figuring out what works best but one thing i've noticed is that pan mycelium really seems to like WBR(whole brown rice).

so i when i started studying how to grow pans i noticed that some skilled growers said they liked to use WBR as spawn. this appealed to me because i eat rice frequently so i always have some around. it might not be as cheap as other grains but i'm just a hobbyist so it doesn't make a big difference and i think the ease of prep makes up for it. this is my adaptation of the teks i came across. there are some elements of it that may need adjustment so feel free to critique. and some of the measurements are kind of vague but i tend to just do stuff by eye so i'm not good at giving exact amounts.
first i take some WBR and full-immersion boil it like you would pasta. depending on the type of rice it will expand between 4-5 times after boiling so if you wanted to make up 10 spawn containers you would start out with 2-2.5 containers worth of uncooked rice. then the amount of time that you boil it for will vary also so you need to know how long it would take for the rice to be ready if you were to eat it your self. then use a third of that amount of time as your boil phase. on average WBR takes around 40 minutes for human consumption but depending on the type i've seen it take as little as 25 minutes and as long as 50 minutes. so if it took 40 minutes your boil phase would be 13 minutes.
after it's boiled i then strain it for 20 minutes. and i like to put a cover over it to reduce exposure to airborne contaminates.
next i use i big spoon to loosely sprinkle it into containers(i use PP5's) so that there are some tiny air pockets for the mycelium to travel through. then i PC the containers at 15 psi for 1 hour and they're ready to use. i know some will question if one hour is really enough, i did too when i saw that some were suggesting it so i made up some uninoculated controls which i let sit out for 2 weeks but after i opened them there was no visible sign of contamination nor was there any smell of it and the grains were still sufficiently hydrated. and i still haven't inoculated with a clean culture but just fucking around with MS, MS>LC and not-totally clean agar wedges i've seen the mycelium eat right through it so quick it doesn't even need to be shaken. so in my opinion it's definitely worth checking out.

I use white rice with green food coloring . Usually it works great. The trick is to have a clean print and the fresher the better. Having a clean print is probably as good as having flow hood. also you can never be too clean with your ways and paths.

I tried for over a year with syringes I got from trusted websites none of them ever worked the only way I was able to get something going was by getting a clean print from another member

Thanks a lot for all the answers and the links --helped a lot. Think I'll try WBR as spawn and maybe I'll also try soaking half of the grains with manure-water.
I recently inoculated and transferred some Pan Cambos and just noticed that they are doing fine on agari compared to Cyans. Pan Cyan cultures just seem to be weak on agar. I'll post a photo ASAP. Maybe it's the spore syringe?

Pan/Cope cyanescens, bispora and camboginiensis did fine on rye berries - in fact, incredible fast colonization and you could shake the quart multiple times and it would recover fast; except when contams were present.

Also, I felt like I should state that I'm using wheat as grain.

The wheat works too. You can even fruit off the stuff save for the cost of grain these days. pan cyan likes humidity and light. It is as if they are some kind of step of sorts used by a entity that is as yet clearly determined. By me anyway.

Your grains wouldn't happen to be on the wet side, would they?

Nope. Had jars of grains happening to be on the drier side and some on the more ideal side but culture is weak no matter what.
