Tap Water Dunk....Beneficial?
    #2426490 - 03/13/04 06:20 AM (20 years, 20 days ago)

I recently dunked my cakes between the first and second flush.I was out of distilled water,so i used tap water on one(our cities water is horrible),and a little H2O2,Ill call this cake (a).I left it overnight, the next day i did the same to my other cake ,only i used destilled water in this one and H2O2 this is Cake (b).
Now the cake named cake (a) only produced about 3 grams dry first flush, while cake (b) produced almost 7 grams dry first flush.
I just finished picking the majority of the second flush off the 2 cakes and the results were unexpected.Cake (a) is 68.3 grams wet with a few more little ones still on cake, and Cake (b) is only 42.2 grams wet.The complete oppisate of first flush.
Could the tap water have helped somehow?I dont understand how they could switch like that.BUt now they are planted outdoors in the city park.
Also i left a few small pins on the cake when i dunked(i know your not suppose to but they were tiny and hard to get)and withen 24 hours after dunking, those little pins that had barley grown the first flush, tripled in size, when i picked them a few were almost an inch tall.
Glad i didnt just scrape them tiny ones off.

It has been said that tap water contains nutrients that may be good for the cake, well you can save your money in the future and just use tap water!

I have always used water from the tap with no good results.

Shine on! :gd_icon:

A good idea is to boil the water for 10 minutes... it will evaporate the chlorine and fluoride as well as killing any nasties that could attack your cake...

I dont like to use tap water as its not that clean, nore
do i like to used distilled water for dunking, as it has
no oxygen in it and its a bit acidic.

I preffer to use bottled spring water, its a lot
cleaner than tap water, and has more oxygen than
distilled water and its cheap.
