First Timer: have I got mould or gold?
    #24263596 - 04/22/17 08:58 AM (7 years, 8 months ago)

Hi all,

First time grower, first time poster.

I've been attempting my first grow box, and it has taken longer than expected - I suspect the ambient temperature want right, and now that I've picked my first flush they look a bit ropey: covered in a white fuzzy mould-like substance. I've read up on several forum threads and some people talk about similar cases just being mycelium. I don't have enough experience with this stuff to identify for myself, and was wondering if I could get your input.

Is this what they are supposed to look like? Can I continue with the drying phase and (theoretically) ingest these? Will subsequent flushes be healthy, or do I need to abort the whole grow?

Your advice would be much appreciated!

Looks like a few mutant strains and a little bit of bruising to me! Mutant strains and mishapen shapes are popular around here, completely edible and it's just an interesting quirk! And a little bit of white fuzz or even hairy fuzzy feet form on the mushrooms, it's just mycelium and mushrooms doing their thing, and sometimes that fuzz or hairs will bruise easiest during picking and drying, even while growing if a neighbor mushroom has been picked. Best to get them dried out to a cracker dry state if you're going to store them.

For me, I'd certainly feel fine eating those. Mold is really going to be something that's usually deep, bright, strong, grass-forrest green scabby organism looking growth on a surface. Yours look like a nice harvest!

Wow, thanks AllCaps!

I was worried they were no good. Feels much better to get a trained eye to inspect!

Hoping to get a couple more flushes worth now
