Experienced growers - side experiment
    #24263595 - 04/22/17 08:57 AM (6 years, 11 months ago)

I'm looking for experienced cube growers to do a side grow, using either paper or coir, WL-Tek, see my pocket guide.
The idea is to have a low spawn ratio, and add no starch or sugar, just macro and micro nutrients.

The spawn should be placed at the bottom, and the mycelium growing upwards.

With paper pellets, I am using 400g of water to 100g of pellets.

Costs:

Miracle-Gro: £3.95 ($4.93 USD), for 1kg, @ 2.5g (7.50ml) = 400 cultures of 200g, dry.
Yeast Nutrient: £1 ($1.25 USD), for 50g, @ 1g (1.25ml) = 50 cultures of 200g, dry.

Paper Pellets: £11.29 ($14.10 USD), for 30 liters, @ 200g = 60 cultures, dry.

If you use other brands, you will need to adjust.
Ideally you need all the listed nutrients.

Not got any spare spawn and coir to try? else that's about $6, not much.

Here is a side-by-side on enriched vs un-enriched cellulose.

I dont understand, I grow on coir all the time.
Why put the spawn at the bottom instead of mixing the spawn and substrate?
Why add miracle grow? Its for plants

The growth should be more uniform as it grows upwards, it will also change close to the surface.

Doesn't matter if the label says "plant" mycelium and yeast require macro-micro nutrients.

If you read my pocket guide you will find data and some links, here is more.
You can also see mushrooms on nutrition sites, such as here.

Here is a grain free cake, using WL-Tek as spawn.

Here's some enriched paper (25g dry) for spawn.
I left it too long, dried a bit and fruited.

cubes are not woodlovers, nor do they have any use for the ingredients in plant fertilizers. that's for plants (duh!)
Keep your coir for cubes and spend your wood pellets on oysters or other woodlovers instead.

Sorry you are wrong, so very wrong, which means you know nothing of nutrients and compositions, yet you are quick to object!
It also suggests that you do not know that mycelium digest materials to small SOLUBLE sizes to eat them.

Here is some fertilizer, take note of the nutrients.

Here is some wood ash, take note of the nutrients.

Here is MG and YN, take note of the nutrients.

Here is two agar recipe's used to adapt a strain to eat olive oil:

Composition of MEA (pH 5.5): 37.0 g malt extract and agar, 1.0 g yeast extract, 0.5 g peptone, 0.5 g ammonium sulfate, 0.5 g magnesium sulfate, 1.0 g KH2PO4, 5.0 glucose, 1 L distilled water.
Composition of WA (pH 5.0): 17.0 g agar, 0.5 g yeast extract, 0.5 g peptone, 0.5 g magnesium sulfate, 0.5 liter beer wart, 0.5 liter distilled water.

Composition of brown rice, here. Essentially what I am trying to copy.
Except I am using cellulose not starch or sugar.

ugh...again, those are just numbers on a spreadsheet. Those numbers does in no way explain how cubensis mycelium will utilize or benefit from it.

you keep starting these threads but you never finish them, you get corrected every time but just jump to another thread, its getting kinda old.

Mycelium, a decomposer digests organic matter and turns it into those nutrients (oxides) for plants... Plants are primary producers, and are vastly different from decomposers.

Mushrooms actually form symbiotic relationships with plants for that extra organic matter from plants, to in turn feed them those inorganic minerals inside of fertilizers (a whole range of different oxides) and provide water. They'd rather give up oxides for organic matter.

Please provide evidence where a decomposer digests and utilises an inorganic material instead of just showing a bunch of inorganic oxides found in each of the ingredients. They derive their nutrients from organic material aka starch, sugars, cellulose, etc. Many people these days aren't even using gypsum, and found no difference in yield.

Sure I have no problem with that, here is a small compilation of data I put together.
I've tried to consolidate it, but there is much much more information.
