My PC was in the attic when we bought the house....it's ancient but a good one...new seal is all I've ever had to do to it.

Ok, I think I gotcha.  It doesn't matter?  The gauge is designed for very low pressure and as long as it holds pressure it should be fine?  I'm just under the impression that it becomes important to make sure it is around 15 psi to provide the heat it takes to kill the bad that infiltrates this type of environment. Obviously a pressure cooker doesn't work with 3000 psi.

But you responded to neither question I had.  Spores? and I guess I will start a thread in "Mushroom grow logs and pictures".

I have my heart set out on Penis Envy.  The reading I have done suggests a successful grow can yield significantly with this strain.  But it also appears that the strain is susceptible to comtam and the spores ordered could be bad?  I'm not sure about what spores to order to insure the best chances of success.  Based on my reading, multispore to agar to isolated strain is nirvana.  But I intend to take precautions to keep the atmosphere as clean as possible during inoculation.  Come back.

So a pressure cooker came with the house.  How nice.  I can only be so lucky that this PC will work.  I have faith.  New ones are around $100 or more so 63 ain't so bad.  I suspect as long as my range will provide the heat necessary I should be ok.  That's just why I wonder about the gauge.  Will 15 psi actually be 15 so as to kill the bad guys.  I think I get it as far as WBS.  First soak to spawn bad guys then kill with 15 psi heat. I just thought maybe 15 should be 15.  We'll see I guess.

Sorry I didn't read the entire post just saying 15 PSI isn't much pressure. Although I've heard of malfunctions and green beans splattered on the ceiling but 15 PSI isn't much...once it blows the pressure dissipates instantly. I use to be nervous working around mine even though I've been around a lot more pressure but not anymore.

Sorry no experience with PE

try oats vs WBS. I hate WBS...nasty stuff. I boil oats 45 minutes then drain/dry then PC for 90 minutes...no issues.

Well, all my reading has been around WBS.  Oats is foreign to me.  Do you have any links to point me in that direction?  WBS is so easy to obtain.  You say nasty so you grow successfully?  I want to know more.  What strain do you use?  Is there any difference? Sorry, I'm so new.

Well the thread was showing ingenuity with a failing gasket so that's what I was commenting on here fruit. There is a search function here that's quite useful...try it out. :zaphod:

Edit: sorry not trying to be a dick but there is a thread that's active in this same forum from Bohdi I think called something like "easy as fuk oat prep"...take a look.
