Would an impulse sealer like a $40 amazon "Impulse Heat Sealer/Plastic Bag Sealer, 12" (300mm) work like I need it to for grow bags or is the $200+ one necessary for some reason. Thanks in advance..

I bought this on EBay for 12$ free shipping, it was brand new. 16", and it came with replacement parts. I have no idea what the difference is between these and the ones that are sold for 1-200$ on cultivation sites. My box says PFS-300 , no brand name or anything. Its a very solid impulse sealer, I've been using it for 2 years at least with no problems and I havent has to replace the brown strip or heating wife (extra of those came with it too).
Once you find the setting that works on the spawn bags you are using you will get a perfect seal every time provided you lay the bag down flat + lined up right.
I suggest a longer one, 16" has been plenty for me but 12 might be cutting it close on some bags. The wider sealers don't really cost much more.

Spawn bags . I like the ones with a filter patch. Unicorn bags are a good brand Ive heard.
They dont need to be heat sealed, they work very well (sometimes better) by folding + twisting the top and using a zip tie to hold it tight.
Here you can see some of my spawn bags, most are sealed with impulse sealer and the odd one out with zip tie.

i use oven bags to PC cvg and ive used them to past poop.
havent used as grain bags though. i used larger bags with filter patches for that since the bag is also the colonizing vessel. i wouldnt want to colonize in a oven bag

that is a filter patch for adequate gas exchange.
There are ways to make DIY spawn bags out of oven bags and zip tying polyfil wads into the mouth of the bags. I would use jars over this.
The oven bags work nice for pasteurization tho

unless the $200 ones have a metal housing that the screws don't fall out of the cheap ones work fine. definitely a cheap chinese product tho. when i took mine out of the box most of the screws that hold the element in place had fallen out during shipping and the plastic was stripped!? nothing some good 'ol duct tape wont fix tho;)

If you spend any money on this hobby at all I recommend spending it on a good pressure cooker and building yourself a flowhood! you can improvise on pretty much everything else.

Is that in reference to me? I agree.
I have a 21 qt and just bought my 30 qt All American pressure cooker. Building a flow hood this summer/early fall. Don't necessarily need one yet.

Yea FH's are nice but not really necessary at home. Really fun though hehe.
I don't exactly need one but I really really wanna build a sick custom SAB with hinged lid. I saw a photo of a wooden one with a glass or plexi lid on a hinge in one of the Stamets books , it was a PDF file I'll try to find the photo again

I seen and know the exact one you're talking about. Just seen a pic of it on here last week. Definitely has been on my mind to build since, After I get my process going again and I deem it a worthy improvement from my current SAB.
