Lighting during inoculation for rye berries
    #24256269 - 04/19/17 06:23 AM (7 years, 8 months ago)

Hello people,

Got a quick beginner's question.

It is my first attempt to do bulk on rye berries.

After I spray the spores in the jars, during the inoculation period, what is the proper light? I have read in a couple of places different answers. Some say the jars should be kept in complete darkness. Some say they should be kept in ambient light. Which one is the best.

If ambient light is the one, could you be more precise? I mean if I just put them on a shelf in a room, that room is very well lit up, you know with big windows and everything.

Thanks a lot for your time

Ambient by far is better.

Put it in a room with no sunlight directly beaming down on it. Doesn't matter how bright it is, as long as there isn't direct sunlight on them. Although I've grown spawn with it getting direct sunlight on them, and they grew just fine, a little slower than the other ones, but no premature pinning or anything.

Light is fine for all stages of growth. Some will say it makes them stronger and produce more fruits!

Others say that lighting summons up the demon of shrooms past, fugolago, and he will steal all your spores in the night.
Spooky? Yep

But worth it.
