I like you! I'm going to upload some pics. I will be using a SGFC once my jars are fully colonized

Since you guys wanted to check them out, here they are. They've grown a lot in the past couple of days! I've got 12 going, 1 hasn't shown any growth.

The first two photos are Escondido, the last one is Texas PE6.
The little dirty bumps over the mycelium is dry vermiculite. No weird smells or discolorations happening.

Well good luck. For the record I'm not pissed. Just annoyed you got pissed in the first place at a guy trying to get some clarification.

People on here try to help you grow as many mushrooms as possible. That's love, so if you're going to keep being an ass to people helping this won't be the last you hear about this.

Try not to open them.
That's some. Good rhizomatic growth on all. Very robust.

Sweet, I haven't had a contaminant yet (knock on wood)

They've grown ridiculously fast, I inoculated most of them on April 8th and 2 of them are almost entirely covered with mycelium. Where do I draw the line in regards of consolidating my jars? Once my jars are completely covered with mycelium on the surface, I wait a week then birth them?

It happens. Usually they all fall within a week or so. Sometimes longer.
For some reason, my later cakes fare better than the early ones. Who knows?

If incubation is a bad idea, why did my grain jars wait to start growing until spring arrived?  I used agar wedges to inoculate these jars a month ago.  Most the jars I am still waiting to colonize.  Temperature in the room is definitely a few degrees higher than when I was doing my best to keep my gas bill low.  The whole oats are 12 days post tiger drop.

Temp needs to be around 70ish. Too high

It's a matter of causation vs. correlation

Sure they might be a bit warmer but most importantly a significant amount of time has passed since you inoculated them

The increase in temperature does speed things up but the contams benefit from it more than the myc does, so it's a bad idea (unless you are in the middle of winter and can't keep temps around 70)

My post got cut.
I was going to type the same thing c10 says.
Too high, can have extra variables to contaminate, if contamination vectors are present. Too low temps is slow, and can also allow more time to contaminate.

Wow didn't mean for my post to be interpreted that way and turned into a whole discussion lmao.

I've never heard of the colonization period as incubation before so that's my ignorance there. Like mad season said for some reason it's a very common mistake for noobs to incubate their Jars/spawn probably because they think the higher temp will help their mycelium grow faster.

Just trying to help, that why I said "if you are incubating". These forums are almost like writing a letter, you have to say what you mean without knowing all the information before hand, because it takes a while to get a response, I could ask you "are you incubating the jars" or something like that and not get a response for hours or days sometimes.

It's easier to just say what needs to be said regardless, and assume the other person won't get butt hurt.

Just trying to help that's all.

Cheers and good luck with your grow.

This is only partially correct.

Lower temps cause metabolic rates in mushroom mycelium to slow, yes, but actually invader spores don't like to germinate in the cooler temp range.

Invader spores like to germinate in warmer temps such as 80-80F+, as well as in high in CO2 environments.

I think it all looks good OP.  I am starting my firsts (and a new poster here) and have found nearly all of my wisdom has come from this forum. Sure there is some bad juju, but overall, this is the best place to talk together about our common interests...in Shrooms!
Good luck and keep us updated, brother

With no incubation, a failed spore syringe inoculation then addition of agar wedge a month later, I finally have a colonized B+ jar with a few pins to boot!

From the label it looks like that jar took a little over 6 weeks to colonize with no incubation with room temps from low 60'2 to mid 60's mostly.  When I checked the jar a few days ago there were still a few untouched rye berries in there.  Today there are a few pins!

What should I do next?  Wait another week?  I bought some coco coir and have a cooler ready.  I also have 7 jars of whole oats waiting to be inoculated with something.  Is that the correct vernacular for the g2g?  LOL is spawn a verb or a noun?
