First timer here... A couple of my babies have dark caps. Are they OK?
    #24255176 - 04/18/17 07:08 PM (7 years, 8 months ago)

These are 5 days in since pinning. The two growing from one cake have way darker caps than the rest. Its less noticeable in the pictures than in real life. Is there any reason for this and if so, what should I be doing differently?

They're in a shotgun chamber. I kind of messed up at the beginning and had the cakes sitting directly on the perlite, which I was told dehydrates them. I also wasn't misting or fanning up until that point. They ended up taking almost two weeks to pin but have been growing pretty fast since then. The big one and the two with dark caps were the first to pin, 5 and 4 days ago and the rest have all popped up in the past 3 days.

Any recommendations? I'm about to start fruiting my next batch of cakes in a couple days and want to do it 100% correctly this time.

They start that color. They lighten as they grow.

That's good! You'll have happy fruits.
At a point, you get to where
You don't have to hover over them so much.

Then they ask for the car keys.
