cloning with a dermal punch

Hi folks, now I know that the best way to clone is to take a sample from the internal tissue of a split stem.....however as I live in a truck it's not possible due to space limitations to have still air boxes and the like. In the past I have had success using a syringe to take a biopsy, however I have just been looking at dermal punches. It appears that they are designed to remove a core of flesh instead of piercing a hole. My question is has anyone used one of these, and if so pros and cons?....

junk and debris could build up within the moving parts? you live in a truck? a sab takes up zero space. like a pickup truck?
and the cons would be the same as doing the needle biopsy method.

If you live in a truck, you may want to rethink growing! Your living in a moving crime scene bro!

I think dermal punch is great. I just made a clone, and was wishing for that exact thing. Wipe it down with a little alcohol, then punch, and then pop it onto the agar

Do you know how to remove the mushroom plug from the punch?

My truck is pretty much filled with my music studio, I would prefer a new mixing desk first space wise!

If you use a syringe, just apply pressure to the stopper.attach the syringe to the hole on the other end of the punch somehow. Rubber tubing?

The reason we tear the mushroom open instead of cutting into it is because it will push potential contams from the outside in. It would be the same way with a dermal punch.
Without a still air box you won't be able to do anything with the biopsy anyways. You need to use agar to clone properly no way around it.
If I lived in a truck I'd just grow magic truffles

He could probably. Make a small SAB, just big enough for his hands, and a plate or two, and put it in the seat next to him?

Well we all have our techniques and opinions. I have made many successful clones with a syringe and iodine before, albeit with a 50/50 success rate. I inject straight to micro jars of grain so I can see if they're clean. As I said I'm very aware of the "proper" technique, however for reasons I have mentioned i do it with a syringe. My biggest ball ache is that a syringe is designed to pierce a hole so it is difficult to remove a core sample. I just saw online biopsy punches so thought I would ask the group if anyone has actually used one. If no body has then that's cool, I'll waste 2 euros and 5 minutes and report back my experience!

If you're happy with a 50/50 success rate then the dermal punch probably won't do any worse. It would help to tear the fruit open before you punch it.
You could have 100% success if you put tissue to agar however.

gasconman, if the limitations of your situation are leading you to try unconventional and potentially risky methods of doing things you might like to check out KauaiOrca's clone water tek.
