needing experienced eyes for oats

Does this look safe to g2g? Took about 3 weeks.

Thanks guys. This is my first attempt at g2g ever. Any tips? This just went to 100 percent colonized today

By shake test you mean shake well and see if it recovers?

Shaking to see if your spawn is contaminated is counter-productive.

The spawn looks clean, but if you are in doubt at full colonization, best thing to do is to get your receiving jars ready to go, and at the time to make the transfers break up the spawn, take the lid off and give the mycelium a quick wiff right before transferring.

If the mycelium smells like anything other than sweet, earthy mycelium your spawn is contaminated.  Do not expand upon it.

Don't smell your g2g masters. Ask stareatclouds

If you don't know if your spawn is clean since you're eyes aint trained yet the shake test is good

Anytime you beat the crap out of your mycelium you are diminishing it.  It's much like you taking a bad ass beating.  You never fully recover.

I, and countless others use the smell test, and have been for years.  The fact that it didn't work for one person, once is no reason to advise against tried, and true methods.

You definitly don't want to exhale into your jars either.  You can also incorporate the smell test by sniffing through the GE filter, but first you have to break apart your spawn.

I didn't know mycelium disappeared from a shake lol.

I've never seen amy dimished results from people who shook their spawn one extra time. You got any

Guys im making some more oats today to expand into. Are we still divided on this issue? Im leaning towards smell test.

What do you do when the more experienced people disagree?

I think 99% of us think the shake is just fine.
I personally don't try to smell masters until afterwards
First and foremost i rely on my eyes and the recovery characteristics the master had from a shake at 30-50%.

Some people think that when you shake the mycelium has to recover and thats energy that is "waisted" that could go into the grow. I've never seen any examples or experienced myself any lack of performance or missing "energy" because a jar got an extra shake

Just like we don't see increased performance casing grains that never got a shake and remained intact the whole time. Which is old news that's been improved upon anyway.

Remember too that your master with perhaps the extra shake is going to a bunch of new jars anyway that won't be "overshoook" if you're worried about that.

The smell check is better than beating the crap out of your mycelium.  You are at liberty to do as you'd like, of coarse, only be advised.

If we could go breaking up our mycelium as much as we want, there wouldn't be a suggested limit on how many times we expanded our cultures before spawning to a bulk substrate before senescence is noticed.

but you break up spawn anyway.

no doubt! and ill :takingnotes: because i dig it but at the same time its just breaking up myc. its not like im scattering into a field. and since it gets broken up anyway to be spawned, it gets diminished that way, right?

so to not diminish it at all why not just top fruit everything?
