polyfill SGFC
    #24251537 - 04/17/17 12:12 PM (7 years, 8 months ago)

So I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong location, I'm new on here and have got a feel for the site yet. Anyway my question is, I live in a very dry area and am having trouble Keeping my humidity high in my SGFC. I was wondering if i could drill holes 1" apart instead of 2" and then use polyfill in them? or at least in some of them to trap the humidity a little better?

I wouldn't. The more air the better tbh. Besides what about it makes it too dry? Are your caps cracking and shit? If they aren't, its just fine, and you need to be misting the cakes and perlite more frequently

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22105120

This was a bacterial AF grow done in open air of my dry AF climate. I was misting 1-3 times a day.

Sgfcs work as is in a climate under 10%. Trust me.

Dont worry so much about the humidity just worry about what the surface of the cakes look like. If still Wet let dry out a bit, if dry then mist.

I mist about 3 times a day but the RH where I live is usually only about 10-15% so I'll mist and an hour or 2 later the walls of my SGFC or dry again :P

Mist your cakes not the walls theyre plastic and do not grow. Directly mist cakes. You arent measuring the humidity at the surface of the cakes and that is where it counts.

Dont mist the walls. No one should be measuring the rh inside a chamber
It just does nor work that way. ....dont mist the walls. Where did you hear that?

ok, thank you so much! luckily I end up misting so much that I end up geting the cakes anyway and it's only been a couple days so hopefully they'll be ok, and I'll start misting the cakes now. how far from the cakes should i mist from?

Like a foot, not even. They withstand raindrops in nature. Your spray bottle doesn't do much.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21595437

This is a great resource for cakes hydration.

damn, so I called my gf at home and asked her to give them a quick spray for me and she accidentally sprayed them with the alcohol bottle. she said she only sprayed a couple times before she noticed, and I guess immediately fanned, and sprayed them with water, fanned, sprayed again, and fanned again... are my cakes gonna die?
