Hello all. I was wondering what security measures you all recommend when using sites like this or other controversial sites. I access by an iPhone and a Windows desktop, never a work computer of course. I'm interested in any and all recommendations. Thanks!

Encrypting your phone and computer, using a VPN or Tor, and have the newest updates installed on each device would be a good start. You want to have the newest apps and security patches installed on your Iphone as well as the newest operating IOS system for apple. For windows think about upgrading to windows 10 it's much more secure than previous versions and windows 10 pro with bitlocker is quite good.

Step one, don't use apple or microsoft malware. They are inherently insecure.

Yeah i suppose, if you know what you are doing, even user friendly linux is not so user friendly.

Free operating systems are often far more user friendly.
Proprietary malware operating systems routinely hide how everything works from their users in their misguided attempt at forcing a dependence on their product. This leaves users not knowing how computers work and suggests that they are not capable of learning or escaping their unjust shackles.
On the other hand many free operating systems do not hide how they work to varying degrees. A new user may have to spend some time learning something new that they should of been taught in elementary school, but the end result is a far more capable user and a generally saner system environment that cultivates understanding and freedom. I started using GNU/Linux operating systems about 5 years ago and while I am no expert I can manage my system without too much trouble. If I were to try to use windows I would be hopelessly lost in how to make it do anything useful despite having used windows for most of my life. The user friendly bs is all smoke and mirrors.
That said, there are several major corporations that work with free software now, at least some of which are disgustingly infatuated with crippling and ensnaring their users as proprietary operating systems do with technical/conceptual failures that promise ease of use while ignoring that the developers never understood what they wanted to "fix". I guess this is a good example of divide and conquer...
Edit: I related this discussion to a friend and he responded with this analogy which I thought fit rather well.
Quote:
indeed. very user hostile. user friendly like a pitcher plant is insect friendly.

All of this really depends on your threat model or threat level.
In any case, I think that using TAILS is a great way to compartmentalize your Shroomery activities and/or any other activities you'd like to keep separate from your public identity. It's about as good as you can do. You sacrifice a very small amount of usability for a tremendous amount of anonymity.
