Mycelium ain't running
    #24250874 - 04/17/17 05:10 AM (7 years, 8 months ago)

Hello mycomaniacs,

So I've been using the same grain spawn (WBS, soaked for 24hrs with gypsum) for a while now but out of the latest four jars, only two are colonizing. I can't figure out why. They were definitely covered when I PC'd them and they have been in indirect sunlight at 20C for about three weeks now. Does any know what might've caused this slow and incomplete growth? Could it be my seeds are too old? Would I maybe have more luck with something like rye berries?

Oh and the WBS was also heated to just below simmering and cooled before I put it in the jars, just as I usually do.

Im having the same issue with my wheat corn mix, only 1 of 2 jars are colinizing and I can see in the one that isnt coling its a lot drier

So maybe itd something to do with moisture in the grain

i have been having the same issue myself all winter with the wheat i have been using . slow growth that eventually stalls out, no contamination or discoloring anywhere. i am fairly positive my issue is  moisture content. i had to add sterile water to my jars to get them to finish. what is the RH in the area you are colonizing your jar/bags? when i finally measured mine it was 28% i was losing all my moisture out the sfd, i also may have been drying to long and not boiling long enough. now that winter is over  things should improve and the RH in the air goes up. you could also try inoculating with LI when i did that, things improved greatly.

I think your moisture content is off. How have you been drying the seeds, and for how long do you let them dry? Water is essential for life.
