Growing mushrooms on cardboard

So I've seen a few youtube videos where people use cardboard to grow mushrooms on. You've all probably seen it before... I thought to do this to start training how to grow mushrooms before I invest serious money in to it.
Would it be worth it?
Another question, how long does mushroom take to grow in general?

There really shouldn't be any serious money involved. A lot of people starting out have these items around their home. If not you can find bigger ticket stuff like pressure cookers on craigslist.
Cardboard is for woodlovers. It is a temporary move using live tissue off harvested mushrooms. Some people insist laying down cardboard while making beds, others insist using the cardboard to jump off to wood chips. I agree with both sides in certain circumstances.
Spawning to cardboard then moving that to chip buckets has helped me in the past. Harvesting stray chips at the end of the season(s) has helped. Moving wild cubes to cardboard won't help much - you'll be aiming for cyanescens, allenii, ovoids, azurescens and others for the cardboard and porch-bucket chip colonization.

I made an LC (liquid culture) from a wood-lover print, then painted it on one side of a bunch of cardboard moving boxes I had left out in the rain after unpacking
(the hardest part was getting the cardboard evenly damp on both sides before the sun dried it)
I rolled the cardboard up after painting it with LC and put them in the shade and covered them with soil, and voila!
