Fruiting chamber location
    #24247810 - 04/15/17 11:49 PM (7 years, 8 months ago)

Hey got a bunch of cakes fully colonized, gonna birth them this week. Also have some Agar with healthy looking mycelium, was gonna transfer into some spawn. Anyways, I'm wondering where you guys put your fruiting chambers, locations in your room. I've got two cats and am worried all their hair follicles might contam the fruiting chamber, I also want to keep it 6" off the floor and 1 foot from any walls. But I'm finding this hard to find a convient location. Any pics or suggestions would be awesome!!

Fruiting is not a sterile process. Your cats can take a dump in the middle of a healthy substrate and it will probably be fine. Well, for a while at least. In any case don't worry about cat hair at all.

You didn't mention what type of fruiting chamber, so I'm going to assume that you built a SGFC like a well-informed new grower. You are right that it's best to be a little away from any walls. It also should be elevated off of any surface, so that air can flow into the holes on the bottom of the chamber. The only other thing you might want to consider are nearby vents, fans, open windows, etc. Too much moving air can dry out your chamber too quickly. Other than those things, location is not really picky at all. Best is to put it on a shelf or table, and raise the whole chamber up a couple inches with something sturdy.

Some tubs from last month, and an older pic of tubs colonizing.

The majority of contams are near the floor so on table is best if its a SGFC.

I fruit my stacks of tubs in the corners, because I like to stand up shop lights against them.
You can fit 10, 20 tubs in a room that way and still have space.

I put my tubs on a carpeted floor because I use clean spawn
