I see. I just cut some pretty small wedges to divide three clone transfer petris among 10 rye jars, but I avoided edges and centers, and consequently really only used a portion of the available mycelium of each petri. They're taking longer to colonize than the WBS, and I'm tempted to give them a shake as I read RR's advice from previous threads to go ahead and shake agar inoculated grain jars after only just a couple dozen grains are colonized. The WBS I let go to like 25%, and they exploded with growth right away after their shake.

Those are all currently under my work desk. 18 bags total, 3lb sawdust, 1/2 quart of spawn. I used a little too much water but they still colonized and are fruiting well enough
Did you spawn those in open air? I'm going to mix some reishi quarts into bags of CVG soon and am assuming it's done open air since nothing needs to be pasteurized.
Speaking of..
Here's my Reishi jars that are 100% colonized. Should it look this fluffy?
And here's the other jars that are slightly bit behind.

Everything looking solid from your experience?

Ya I used the lipa saw dust tek so I spawned them in open air, but had I sterilized the sawdust, I would of had to do it in front of my hood.
Try to put a little sawdust in that coir mix! Reishi doesn't do too magnificent on coir alone in my limited experience. I've only grown on coir a couple times but it was less than optimal for sure.
Spawn those jars SOON or they're gonna turn into solid blocks of rubbery mycelium that is impossible to shake apart!

Check this plate out please.

Two days ago was planning to transfer from noon o clock, but no, whatever the fuzz is, it's surrounded the only decent myc I could see.
I used an insanely low nute agar recipe, and it's like the good myc can barely latch on or something. Digesting the dye before plates finished colonizing, all in all just made a bad run of plates. All I have going pretty much looks shitty like this. Any ideas?
Can't I like drop a fresh plate over top of this or something and it'll grow out?

Just cut up my first 1kg batch of straw by hand.
Needless to say I'm investing in a wood chipper.

Fuel pellets are basically impossible to find around here so I'm just doing CVG, which I've seen done successfully (although pellets are obviously optimal).
I'll break the jars up right now and spawn/G2G them tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Your best bet if you can't find any fuel pellets is to look on craigslist. There are like 3 cabinet makers in my area and they are all giving away free sawdust. Craigslist is a great resource for substrate

I have a TSC 45m away where I get my oats. They don't have any hardwood fuel pellets ATM, only pine. Lowe's, HD, and such are all softwood right now. I'd heard that sawdust is too thin, but maybe mixing with CVG would be fine. I'll look on CL for hardwood sawdust.

Those pellets shouldn't be pine. Pine not good to burn.
Have someplace order them for you if no luck on CL.
Good luck

Walmart has a couple brands of HWFP. Just look by their charcoal. I got 2 different bags from Walmart, one is half oak half mesquite and the other is all oak.

Different areas receive different types of wood, even with the same brand. I've called and went to multiple big stores and they're all either out of stock or only carrying pine. Yeah, the bags you're talking about are the BBQing pellets and not fuel pellets. They're ultra expensive.

I'm going to use the 2 in combination fuel pellets and smoking chips.
I don't understand why they would sell pine pellets for burning. I can't remember what it's called but it builds in your chimney quickly and is very flameable. Chimney fires are no fun. seems like a safely hazard to me.

Well, I've already decided that my next serious grow will be a monotub. But since I have a SGFC and the half-pint jars still, I think I'm going to do something of a novelty grow as well.
I'll do two standard PF Tek BRF cakes. Then I'll do two with Soylent in place of BRF, and two with "100%FOOD" in place of BRF.
I searched but I hadn't seen posts of anyone using either of those, but I may have missed something. Any of you guys used either of those? I'm not really expecting exceptional performance, but I think it will be fun to experiment. And it'd be a shame to let the SGFC go to waste after only one round of cakes!

I have only used whole brown rice, and now I have some cakes with oats and jiffy seed starter mix LOL. They are colonizing nicely.

How bout this one guys? This is a PE clone almost ready. It seems to be having a hard time covering the top. I shook at 30%. Is it actually colonized at the top or does it need more time?
Any of you guys got something for me on this?

To be honest, to me that looks like it just needs another day. It's probably having trouble because of lack of gas exchange I'd guess. It's possible if you loosen the lid a tiny but it will help it speed up through that last tiny bit.
The jar looks a little sweaty, but it looks like higher temp type sweating and not bacterial infection.
Truth is, I would probably go ahead and spawn that, but I have a pretty clean environment. If yours is more of a contamination prone environment, I'd wait for absolutely 100% colonization...And shake gently before spawning.
