Transfer using casing section.

Hey guys..

Here's a question. I have an isolate that's been going for about a year now, last august i baught a house and it has well water, took me a while to find out, but another hobby brought it to my attention  :smirk:

ph: 9.2
TDS: 480

Ever since moving i had been having a hard time getting my g2g workin right. the jars would colonize about 75 % and stall, the bottoms would not finish and appeared dark/almost black and end up contamed.

Of the few jars that survived, casings made with the same water/straw/compost would fruit very slowly and have tiny heads with rosecombs and would not mature correctly....... the addition of oyster shells in the casign helped a bit...

I now have an RO ( reverse osmosis ) and my water comes out ph 7.1 and TDS 0  made a batch of jars and they look MUCH better.

Now, i'm out of jars to transfer from, except 1 that's possibly usable...

I have a couple casings that were made with RO water and they fruited just fine !

Could i take a chunk from a fruiting casing and transfer it to good jars with any hope of no contamination? or would i be better off taking a section of a fresh mushroom and transfer with it ?

I assume that the mycelium of the casing and the mushroom stem are both the same isolate ??????

ok. this is getting long.. i'll shut up now !!

pH of 9.2 sounds crazy for any kind of drinking water, assuming your well water is intended as palatable.

You will probably have better luck with a tissue transfer. If you do use part of a casing, try to get a chunk from the center of the casing as this area remains sterile for much longer than the peripheria of the casing.

I think you will have trouble getting a straight answer regarding the genetics from the casing and fruits.

I do appreciate your experience though as I assumed most palatable water supplies to be fine for cultivation.

I was getting PH 7.0 for a while, but i have not flushed the membrane in a few weeks, my PPM reading changes by + or - 30 at different times..

The water is high in manganese, ( leaves a black film on sink and bathtub... and smells like shit, but otherwise clear to the eye )
