Can I eat this?
    #24239427 - 04/13/17 06:29 AM (7 years, 9 months ago)

Hey guys,

As seen on the photo's below I got some good shrooms but also some green ones. Is it oke to eat the green ones also? Or should I remove the green ones?

And why do the shrooms only grow on the edge of the myselium? How can I make it grow FULLY covering the myselium? Can it be the temprature, being it was a bit too cold?

Thank you very much for your help!

Bacteria/yeast will die in the dehydrator cycle. I've had many a bacteria blotching on fruits, and never had an issue eating them. The common green molds in this hobby are also all edible. Trich is found in every inch of the soil, so if you're scared of trich, better stop eating root vegetables. Aspergillus is very common to make corn syrup with, and penicillium is what makes blue cheese blue. TBH I kinda doubt the fruits are moldy. How long have these fruits been there? They don't look old or anything, and they're just blue on the fruits and not the sub.. I'd remove them and take better pics of them.

If you dehydrate shit, it's extremely unlikely you'll be getting sick.

Also, light hitting the sides isn't why things side pin. Check out this thread, I just talked about it in this one last night lol

Thanks for the reply both of you! This is indeed a growkit with plastic bag bought from a vendor.

So now i see two opinions about consuming the green ones. I really dont want to go to the hospital after consuming. So I wont eat it if there wont be much of it eventually, hope most of em will have a normal color.

This is another pic of how the pins come from the edges and the rest of the myselium is just empty. I wonder if there will grow more with this flush.

What are (black) liners if I may ask? And so I give the kit more FAE by just opening the bag regularly I guess.

Mycotoxins are toxins that affect you through inhalation. They're not ones that make you have issues with ingestion. It's not like these molds are producing cyanide or something.

Bacteria and yeast also don't form toxins like this, they give us issues when they're alive and we ingest them, thus why you're supposed to cook your food to kill them, or just simply dehydrate it. They don't survive the drying process, even without a dehydrator. With no water, they're definitely gunna die.

I understand that it seems wild I'd advise this, but yeah it's definitely edible. Molds to our societies are treated like the plague for reasons like mycotoxins or simply because they're misunderstood, but a good understanding of molds seen in this hobby would tell you that this particular mold OP might even have (which I'm still kinda doubtful he has) would be penicillium, and although it has inhalation mycotoxins, eating it is just fine, as seen in blue cheese.

Learned something new today!

Is there a chance that it would be giving mild problems to people who have leaky gut issues? (yep, that's me!)

Really though, technically yes it's edible, but you gotta be hella desperate to be eating it..

OP you should grow from scratch...

Anything that can compromise your immune system, stay the fuck away from molds. I'm not sure about leaky gut syndrome :/. I'm just assuming OP is healthy, and if you do have any health issues, you probably shouldn't be growing a fungus anyways.
