Anybody in here have experience with swordbelt?
Is it really any different / better than your standard piopinni / black poplar culture?

Ok I reviewed that (pages 16-17).
Relative to standard piopinni does sword belt taste better? Higher yeild? Different fruiting parameters?
I'm contemplating buying some or trading. I already have a piopinni culture so I'm trumykng to determine if it is worth trying.
Yours look great btw!

Scientific name: Agrocybe aegerita

Synonyms: Pioppino (Italian), Black Poplar (UK-EU), The Swordbelt Agrocybe (CA-US ??), Yanagi-matsutake (Japanese), Zhuzhuang-Tiantougu (Chinese).

What it's called depends where you come from. Also depends what the vendor calls it.

Fully qualified vendors and high quality traders will have better strains.
Or at least fully domesticated isolated strains for fruiting.

Blue Oysters. Not very impressive, but still something. They got too leggy from low FAE in SGFC. Color is off because temps got up to 70f during the day. Total weight: 1lb 10oz.

I Like!

It is nice when you can hold those cooler temperatures and get that great blue grey color though!

More colour, bigger and thicker caps with O2 + light, oxidization and conversion.
Given the substrate has no nutritional deficiency's and enough water.

Medium FAE, Medium light:

High FAE, High light:

They are 5/5 for a SGFC setup, they beat mine.
Sorry I only just converted the weight.

I got about 620g in one flush.

Here is the data on my Golden oyster test on WL-Tek basic, 80% water content:

I got 1800g wet, from 3000g wet (60%). That is ~180g dry from 600g dry.
Given paper is roughly 40% carbon, that's 240g of total carbon.

180 / 240 = 0.75, 0.75 * 100 = 75% yield (approx).

I was satisfied. I like doing King Oyster, because they don't care about the FAE, but temps won't be right for another 6 months now that spring is here.

Thanks! It figures out to be a little over 727g for that first flush. Harvested, and threw the block outside. Maybe it'll do something out there, maybe it won't. Doesn't matter though, because even if it fruits again, the gnats will devastate it. That's why I do the SGFC thing.

If you want fruit formations the size of golf balls, add a rich compost.

Is this your first time casing with rich compost? Cuz this sounds like it will contaminate, but it is interesting. Is the whole yield better with it?

That's mixed, not cased. Using the latest WL-Tek recipe with calcium, no contamination.
Only time I got mold is from dirty mixed spawn, that was close to the surface.

The mold then grew through the casing, it was 100% hidden.

Small, but quite adorable. Looks like i've got some spores too from the first few i picked a couple days ago. I'll definitely thin out for the second flush to get larger fruits.
