ID request - Chlorophyllum brunneum

Hoping somebody could confirm I've found Chlorophyllum brunneum. At the very least, any Chlorophyllum that prints pure white is edible, yeah?
I'm guessing it's C. brunneum rather than C. rhacodes based on the bulbous "root", and by the simple annulus. These are actually far more common than C. rhacodes in my neck of the woods, from my experience.
Habitat: Grassy lawn
Gills: White, detached.
Stem: Typical Chlorophyllum. The annulus was simple (i.e. one, not two), and was immobile. Brown on the underside.
Cap: Typical Chlorophyllum. Big, impressive, scaled.
Spore print color: Pure white, see photo.

Definitely Chlorophyllum, does brunneum occur in NZ? Does it bruise? If so id call it that. I've heard mix reports regarding edibility. At worst you may experience gastrointestinal discomfort, only one way to find out.

Cool, thanks for your input. I've read that they do occur in NZ. I cut the cap in half now and it isn't bruising to the air just yet, but it's really old (72 hours). I'm able to get significant bruising by rubbing the cross-section with my finger, though.
I left this one to print for too long -- it smells off now -- but I know a spot where a bunch more grow. I'll fry one up over the next day or two and report back (hopefully not from the toilet.)

I would have never known lepiota molybdites is edible, if cooked (Alan, is that worldwide or only pertaining to Australian species?) I'm still afraid of trying it. That's an interesting paper, thank you Alan Rockefeller, for sharing your knowledge, so, freely. To bad, there are not more pro's out there like you, whom are willing to share thier hard earned experience. There's no telling how many people ALL of you T.I.'s have kept from getting sick. Thanks Again.

It is toxic to most people, but edible to some. I do not know if cooking has anything to do with it.

I noticed in the paper you referenced, it says eating raw has undesirable effects, so I would assume that cooking reduces this risk, possibly with a water change. I will definitely look more into this. Thanks for the reply.

Water change will reduce effects for sure. I wonder if heat alone does it - and if so, how much.
There are some other mushrooms that are toxic raw and edible cooked - Amanita rubescens, morels, Verpa and honey mushrooms come to mind.

Thanks for the paper Alan. I had the same reaction when I saw that, Doc. I've never seen C. molybdites treated as even potentially edible. I wonder how the authors came to their conclusion
