That's the thing, we've used the same spores to knock up rye jars and those are totally fine.

So here's that milky stuff I was talking about both appeared on the Golden Teacher plates:

But today I looked at the progress of the B+ plates and this is what I saw:

There's some pretty bad mold in the ones so I cut it out but am I wrong or is that mycelium?

Bacteria is very hard to see in a grain jar.

I usually find it slows growth, almost to stall if it gets a foot hold and gives it away to the nose

Sure. Sometimes it smells. Sometimes it stalls the culture. Sometimes it does neither.

I jumped right into agar via pasty plates. Did my second round of pasty plates today. I find it strangely exciting . I only had one out of 8 contam on my first round. Getting ready to start on grain with a tiger drop. I'm new but meticulous and a voracious reader. I'm so new that I'm posting here just to increase my number of posts so I can read some of the restricted material. Apparently you need 10 posts to get access?
Thanks to Pastywhyte and many others for all the great info.

This is what I get when I click on it: "To view this forum you need to be registered for 14 days and make 10 posts. You have 3 posts left to go."
I'm not sure what it is but I want to read it. Someone linked to it in another post.

You can't see the grow logs forum unless you make 10 posts.

Here is my progress so far: My first batch of plates were from a spore print. All went well except for one plate that went to hell. Today I used a syringe. I wasn't as confident with the syringe so decided to try it two ways. First four plates I squirted liquid onto a sterile swab and sort of rolled the swab in the center of the agar.
On four other plates I squirted a small amount of liquid onto the surface of the agar. I labeled each of course. All work was done in a SAB except for sterilizing the syringe.
That is 10

It has been 11 days since I inoculated the agar using this tek, I used glad mini rounds (8 pcs). Only around 10%-20% agar on every mini round is colonized.
Is this normal or this is taking too long?

I'm new to this so don't come down too hard on me for what I think is a stupidly obvious question that I can't figure out.
I've thoroughly searched the forums and am still confused: Is there a next step once the agar is fully colonized or do I just leave it and let the mushrooms grow on the agar?

You can transfer again to obtain more plates or reduce the number of strain present if the grow is multispore. Or you can start a grain jar with a clean wedge. Or start a LC with a clean wedge. Or use a large wedge to make LI.
