One obvious critique would be that you could re-title it to "psychadelic culumnar cactus production- a complete guide" or something like that. San Pedro is just one of three popular species.

Edit: actually "mescaline containing columnar cacti" because there are other psychadelic columnar cacti. Thanks for posting this. I'll reference it in the future for sure.

san pedro references, pachnoi, bridgesi, and peruvianus.

They call it san pedro(St Peter) because they(the peruvians) believe they hold
the key to the gates of heaven.

Thanks for all the kind words and critiques!  Based on this, I'll likely include an intro with a brief history of San Pedro when I get time.  Other than that, I have a lab guide for book two I've been working on for about two years.  I may also add pics.  I used to have them included, but removed for legal reasons.

I have boiled and strained my San Pedro cactus and the amount of liquid is way more than desired. Will it hurt the strength of it or anything if I boil the liquid down more?

Should work you will only concentrate the good stuff, boiling point of mescaline is 180 C

That would be the boiling point of freebase mescaline, not of dissolved mescaline salt. For the HCl the melting point is about 180C, coincidentally. But that is not all that relevant to dissolved mescaline either I think.

Thanks for the San Pedro guide, I only have one small one but also some seeds..

Am interested to hear if people agree on San Pedro tolerating more water than other Trichs.

They're still cactus and will rot from too much water. I made that mistake several years back when I put a couple of pc pachs on irrigation and rotted them out. Now all my trichos are in the ground and just get watered by hose and by the rain

From my experience bridgesii will get black spots from too much water. Pach and peruvianus seem to swell up a lot and handle the extra water better. My pachs will split but be ok from too much water whereas bridgesii will get weeping black spots.

All the varieties of pachanoi I have tolerate excess water better than any of bridgesii/bridgeoids I have. I had some pc get 24"+ of rain in a few days and didn't rot or split but the soil was pretty dry going into the hurricane. I think any of my bridgesii would have rotted. Once they get a solid woody trunk I'm going to put them in the ground/rockbed going to go with mostly all rock/pumice for the bridgesii to hopefully avoid the rot.

Yes, it will hurt the Mescaline since hydrolysis and oxidation will both alter/destroy it.  Boil it down as quickly at possible using overhead exhaust to minimal the loss.  The longer you have it in water and exposed to atmosphere, the worse the degradation will be.

The root rot is mainly based on the structure of the roots. You can grow these cacti hydroponically without root rot but the root structure are water roots not air roots.

I've grown bridgesii in rainy Florida without issues of rot however they were never allowed to stay dry for longer then a few days. If you don't water your cacti then decide to leave them in wet soil for a few days they will rot.

I could water my cacti everyday and not have issues with rot (more likely would have issues with splitting due to excess water/ferts.

I think a lot depends on how nice you make it for the pathogens causing the rot (assuming your plant is healthy and not dormant)
And similarly how nice you make it for microbes not causing rot.

I suspect a similar thing may happen with mites, you kill off the mite predators and it's free game for them.

I've had the same soil in ziplock bags with seeds in em, only difference was some were inoculated with a harmless fungus.
The inoculated bags still smelled fresh when opening them a month later while the other ones were growing all kinds of ugly mold within weeks/days.

So yeah what modern.shaman says..i expect when you drench em suddenly the whole situation for microbes might change and its open season again for anything.
