I started agar on 4/5 and I'll post a pic here and hope someone can tell me whether I have contam or myc.. I'm leaning towards contam but would like some others advice. BTW I inoculated with a spore syringe, I have no other means of inoculation at the moment

Watching this thread. I've got some ksss plates that look like that and I'm learning how to spot contamination also......

It smells like mycelium.. that's what's really got me puzzled.

What variety were your spores? It's probably a mix of mycelium and some bad stuff...

There is mycelium there...just looks nasty like there is some bacteria in your dish...I would say take a couple transfers and try to clean it up...

They're all lizard king cubensis. I put just a few drops of solution on the plate.

Would you say the piece right in the middle is healthy?

IMO bottom right of the pic looks prettty nasty. Leading edge of the top left area may be a good starting point.

Take the smallest peice you can and get it on another plate. You've definitely got bacteria in that plate and need to transfer away from it. Next time put just one drop of spore solution. You don't want all that moisture in there.

How did you smell it and take this pic?
If this jar was exposed to open air thats going to make things going from this point on very difficult

I have multiple jars.. didn't only just do one. They all look relatively the same.

that particular jar that has been opened in open air is no longer worth saving imho.
another thought is that while its nbd to use a spore syringe on agar (less from the syringe is more better!)... but for spores to germinate AND show that much growth in just 5 days seem too fast from my (very limited) experience. i wouldnt be so sure that any of the spores even germinated yet and all of that could be nastiness. i could be wrong tho and wish you luck.
what ever the case is i would cut tiny bits of the leading edges from where ever was whitest and transfer to see what grows out.

An update for anyone who's interested.. I did transfers on every one, even the one that was exposed to open air. Each one of them has rhizomorphic mycelium growing wild on them now.. one jar has a little bit of contam (I assume is the one I exposed to open air). Doing more transfers today and will go to grain next week.
