You don't want milky colored goo. Thats for sure.
I could definitely see the dehydrated meat adding an unknown factor.
Sterile or not the meat is going to spoil eventually.

If I don't see any progress (no signs of myc) after 5 days, does this mean it wont go any further or should I wait?

I'm dying. This is hilarious.
I made plates per the Tek and inoculated with APE syringe over 3 weeks ago. Nothing. Try again?

D.little91 said: Hello everyone. So I followed the steps and here I am about a week later and it appears there is some milky colored goo building up on top of the agar. Couldn't get a good pic but I'm hoping this is a good sign. A few side notes. I used cheap Wal-Mart instant potatoes which I think was a mistake. There are chunks of meat in it which it didn't advertise but its my fault I should have read the ingredients. Anyway the agar is, well, chunky lets say. Anyhow I hope it still works and will update on progress.
This is so awesome.

Another question. I noticed there is water floating on top of my agar, when i move the glad mini rounds, the water moves easily, this water is only on the top.
Is this why mycelium is not growing?

Sometimes i would get water in my pasty plates that wouldn't re-absorb. Before you make transfers just crack the lid and pour it out on the SAB floor. You really don't want that bit of water moving contams and mycelium around your plates.

Hey Pasty, thanks for the reply.
So this is the 2nd time I've tried your agar tek and I'm not having much luck. The first batch nothing happened at all. This 2nd time around the only thing I did differently was wipe off some of the extra condensation from the sides of the containers after they had been pressure cooked with a sterile paper towel.
I have been using wildflower honey which is a little darker in color than the normal teddy bear honey you see, do you think this could be why I'm not having much luck?

It's not the honey. Just leave the condensation, it will clear usually. Probably dirty spores is the problem.
